About to receive the Nokia N8

I will be receiving my nice shiny new N8 at some point today. I was just wondering why there is so much hatred for nokia at the moment.
I have had a few nokia devices in the past, then some others.
I had a iPhone 3, which was ok but for me it was more of a game station than it was a phone.
Does anybody else feel my pain??

I think it is because they have struggled a bit in the smart phone market. I was a little disapointed in the N95, and the 96 and 97 have just produced more problems and bugginess.

The N97 was their only real error. The N96 was a niche device and underspecced, never sold well.

But the N95 was (and still is) an absolutely fantastic phone - the first truly decent all-in-one.

With luck I'm going to be getting an N8 next week - assuming my local Orange shop actually has them in stock ..... and assuming I don't have to stay in all day waiting on a sofa delivery .....

The N95 8gig was probably Nokia's last triumph. I had one and loved it. It was belt built, it had decent features for the time and it felt nice in the hand.

I moved on to an N97, I got it a week before they were released, and at first it was great. Sadly within a few months the build quality really let the handset down. Then I saw Android and realised that I was using a smartphone that felt outdated and too little too late.

Now I'm an HTC user. First with the Desire and now with the Desire HD and there's nothing I've seen so far on Nokia that would tempt me back to being one of their customers. I'm sure if you play with the latest Desire HD on the internet, play a few games and look at the UI you'll see why and that N8 will quickly seem a tad dated in some respects.

Nokia used to be the top of the phone makers but sadly their day seems to have gone.

Only reason I preferred it over my P-series Sony's was the camera. I was never convinced with the build quality of it (which has always been a strong point of Nokia's), and the battery life was shocking if you actually tried using any of the decent features, never mind the price that Nokia wanted for a spare battery for it at release.

It was ok, but it did not shine in any one area enough for me to be impressed. Still, managed to sell it for an ok price when I got rid of mine two years later.

the N95 8GB was awesome. at the time it was way ahead of the competition and was very stable.

the n96 and n97 were disappointing. mostly in implementation if not the specs.

I've had an N8 for a couple of days now and it's great. stable too.

Nokia started cheaping out after the N95 and N95 8GB, N82 days. The N96 started off with bad firmware the early adopters reported this and no one bought the phone then on, and things went downhill from there N97, N86 era of phones were riddled with low quality, low powered hardware, coupled with poor software, a recipe for disaster.

The N8 is as turn around but it might be too late to get back normal customers, the techies can always overcome problems but what about everyone else? Also given Nokias poor customer support the best option is to go elsewhere.

I wouldn't say the competition are that great on customer support.

Apple screwed up with the recent iOS on the older devices that left them unusable.

Android is in mild chaos with updates, with plenty of devices still left on 1.6 (Sony), and the only way some others are getting Froyo is via the hacking community - which is useless for the average person.
