Tried the voice recorder app which doesnt pick up my voice which makes me think there is a problem with the mic BUT the voice search does work which rules the mic problem out
Works fine with the headset though

Never a good idea to criticise other people's writing when you can't even get your own correct.

To the OP, before taking it back to the store I would be tempted to back up all my stuff and then do a Factory Reset. If Voice Search works 100% of the time then it's clearly not a microphone (ie. hardware) problem, which naturally indicates a software one. If a Factory Reset doesn't cure it, I'd definitely be returning it to the shop.

So true, lol.

Before doing a hard reset I would make sure that you are not covering the mic when making calls, as from what I have read (I don't have this particular handset myself) a few people have had similar experiences when making calls due to the mic being covered. Also, you can also turn up your in call volume which may be set too low.

Good job. I have had my Galaxy S for a little over a week now, and I must say it's a cracking phone.

It will only get better with the 2.2 upgrade too. Easily matches the best HTC have to offer.
