Why are so many artists re-releasing an album, most them don't need to anyway. It's getting rather annoying and it's basically a middle finger up to the people who bought it in the first place. Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers, Michael Buble, Usher, The Saturdays (Which the album thier re-releasing is basically a re-release it's self), Ellie Goulding, the list is endless. Even Kylie said she might.

You can always buy the extra tracks on itunes. Don't see the problem.

Yes, but for the saturdays, (im not just sticking up for them, but it's the only act above i take an interest in) It was more of release a couple of tracks to keep the fans going untill the next full album. Which has been a success due to the high amount of sales they've had for headlines (compared to Wordshaker, which was a full album) and the success of missing you.

Rihanna started it all off with "Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded". Now everyone seems to be jumping on the cash cow/bandwagon.

They have - almost. There's still some treasures in the EMI vaults that haven't sen the light of day - and should.

The "new" Beatles albums out this month are the old Red & Blue compilations released in the early 70s. Even as a die-hard Beatles nut, they're not top of my Christmas list (the reissued Band on the Run (with tons of bonus tracks is ). The Red and Blue albums have a mixture of album tracks and singles, all of which I've already got in great quality from last year's remasters programme.

But the Red & Blue albums sold shed loads in the seventies and eighties and were the way many casual Beatles fans got into the band. So the reissued and remastered CD versions will probably sell well as a piece of nostalgia as the tracklistings will be familiar to so many people.

Actually re-release have been going for years. But i know what you mean, they became more known when Rihanna did.

I am sucker for a good re-release but some are generally con's. I think Pixie's was a good one. 10 extra songs. I paid 8.99 for 22 songs on one disc. That's a fair deal in my opinion

Yeah that's what I meant; she started the current trend, rather than the process of re-releasing itself

Yeah, I definitely think it's overdone, especially when they are re-released with like 3 or 4 extra songs. Seems a bit silly.

Well to defend Kylie, she's done it for nearly all her albums as a tour edition so a re-release is nothing new for miss Minogue.

Ke$ha can be defended because she apparently will sell her bonus tracks as a stand-alone ep like Lady gaga did in the U.S but not over here sadly.

Others its just unacceptable in my eyes just release these three new songs as b-sides or an ep for gods sake their labels are cash cow monsters that want gold and platinum records.

itunes sound quality is absolutly dreadful compared to CD.

i have to say the only re-release which is justified was lady gaga - for obvious reasons.

I like getting extra music from artists, you don't have to buy the whole re-release just the new songs.

Re-releases have been going for years. I personally think they are getting better as the years go by and it's getting to the stage I actually don't mind rebuying.

At least the most recent re-releases have actually added something substantual like several+ new songs instead of the old '1 new song and half dozon remixes' like they used to

Though personally, I think Michael Buble's new re-release is a joke.

I started a thread about this subject but I concentrated on a particular CD I had bought.

Katherine Jenkins- Believe

I bought this about 2-3 months after it was released and it didnt seem that long after that it was re released with an extra track. Now its being re-released again with about 4 extra songs and a dvd. So thats 3 different versions in the course of a year......disgusting.

I think they should introduce a ruling whereas you can go to a shop and trade in the first version of a CD if the re-release occurs within a year and get the new version at a substantially reduced price.

It's nearly Christmas...

The only time I think a re-release is validated is if it comes with a bonus disc of some sort; a DVD or bonus CD with extra tracks or remixes.

Aren't the songs on the saturdays re-release just songs off Wordshaker though?

i am intrigued by Kesha's Cannibal but i own Animal, but may buy the import EP of Cannibal, Kesha is a good dance orientated artist i think, she ticks several boxes!

and in Pixie's case i think it re-introduces her material to people! but in all seriousness it's for several artists to get their platinum discs really and not the material itself, which i find apalling in some cases! but for those who dont mind downloading or re purchasing then go for it!

3 of them are. But they are re-releasing headlines next month with another three songs from Wordshaker which is enough to piss fans of.

I remember back in 2002/2003 when Liberty X re-released their Thinking It Over album. The second CD had some remixes and three music videos. I bought the re-released version after searching everywhere for it.

Headlines is like 60% of wordshaker and like four new songs and a remix with flo rida of one of the new songs.

it's just silly and they have alll these b-sides for their singles. if they had remixes instead they could add some of these b-sides to the re-release instead of more of wordshaker.

Ke$ha is the only one doing something substantial with her re-release 7 new songs, one song she only put on the japanese version of animal (C U Next Tuesday), a remix of a non-single track (animal) and possibly some music videos for songs that aren't singles (Stephen and animal, i think its her tour background vids)

They should just make EP's to tide fans over till the new album and charge like £5 or so. Bit like Lady Gaga did although hers did have 8 new tracks.
