It's down on this time last year as well. It was almost always if not always getting over 7 million then. It's under 7 million now. If EE can't get over 9 million regularly and ED can't get over 7 million regularly for a dark night then something is amiss. They both should be getting regularly over those figures or very close to them without timeshift. They aren't, which means ratings are slipping. And the producers need to stop the slippage before more switch off and don't come back.

Soaps are already losing viewers from the genre, don't help them on the way. Both soaps for me are close to unwatchable these days and I have given up both. If they want me and other like me back then they have to get rid of the current producers.

For this time of year, it is bad - and you know that.

Of course everyone knows it. But for a some strange reason there are posters on here who won't acknowledge that. It is mediocre ratings and we all know it.

You're really blind, aren't you? Have a look at this page. Anyway, at least they haven't experienced a decline - they're on par with 2008 onwards. That said, though, they should be doung better.

Actually I think you will find that was discussed We said that was bad ratings for that night as they were severely dented by the documentary on BBC1 about benefits, and apparently football was on. But that was a once off. Their ratings have been slightly increasing with the dark nights. They got just under 9 million for both episodes last night. That is healthy ratings, and it is on par with this time last year.

Corrie's ratings too are at times down on this time last year. Other times they are on par. No denying that all the soaps are down in general, and no one has denied it. But EE is the most noticable. Corrie are at least getting over or near 9 million regularly, there's the difference here. That is why we are saying something isn't right. EE should be getting Corrie ratings too.

i do wonder if the reason the soaps are down from last is that it's still mild for november. if i remember last year was really cold.

Anyway Eastenders might be a bit dented on next tuesday because of football on ITV so don't be shocked if its under 8m.

IDK what is the cause of the general drop. It could be the milder weather or it could just be more tv channels these days. Also people can use other ways of watching. It's probably a combo of the three. When the weather gets colder we can see the effect on the ratings it has, and we'll have a better idea

Leeway has to be given for big events like football, they always dent the soaps. It's the normal days you have to go by.

Coronation Street looked to do ok on Friday although EastEnders and Emmerdale looked to be a little bit on the low side.

I think that EastEnders will start to rise This week as it's going into November and there is a quite a big week in terms of storylines this week but the BBC have not advertised it so maybe not. I hope we have at least 9million for Monday's show.

Much better ratings for EastEnders.

I think the show is getting a lot better and we have some fantastic storylines coming up.

I like the way Phil and Shirley have taken Roxy in and I love her and Shirley's friendship.

Ben accusing christian will be fantastic viewing and bringing the mitchells/christian/Masoods on screen.

Was 2009 a poor year for soaps/Are they a good benchmark to judge against?

I thought the conventional wisdom was that in the winter months the two main soaps should be getting 9m or near to it?

EastEnders was dented by the Football on ITV1 last night just as 'samthefootball' said it would.Almost a million on BBC3 isnt bad.Nearly 2million for Doctors is good to see

s'samthefootball' was referring to NEXT Tuesday. There was not football on ITV1 last night or did I miss something.

As far as I know there wasn't football on last night. I thought Jeremy Kyle's game show was on. But I didn't watch ITV so I'm not sure, but I don't remember football being listed or on as I channel flicked. I don't think they had any competition.

Looks like it was just a another crap night ratings wise for EE. Still yet to get over 9 million. Corrie got over it again on monday, and ED got over 7 million, which is where they should be. ED got under again last night though so they can't hold it.

Corrie barely scraped over 9m on Monday, and its first episode was almost level with EE. And whilst 7.95m may not be a great figure for EE at this time of year it's hardly a crap rating - if it were maybe a million less than that I might be inclined to agree with you.

They are still regularly getting over 9 million, that's my point. EE hasn't been there is months, they should be getting that for this time of year. And last nights ratings were beyond awful, especially as they had no big event as competition. That is a crap rating for EE at this time of year, stop denying the obvious.

I must admit I dont recall any major sporting event last night and I thought any poor summer ratings were discounted because ratings are always lower in summer yet now were in winter and the opposite should be true.
