Good rating for EastEnders yesterday - back to ~40% share.”

Didn't i say it would
Brilliant rating for EastEnders and the BBC 3 repeat is doing quite well and last night was a really good episode with lots happening so that can only be a good thing

All soaps did well last night

It's no real surprise that things are slipping.

But of course, like Dan says, no one can predict the future and I have no doubt that over the year, they will continue to switch places, as they inevitably do. In fact, for all we know, Hollyoaks could be the highest rated soap by December.

Well...”

If there's No big storylines then there's nothing for Casual viewers to tune in for
look at the 3 main soaps and what storylines they have had so far this year

Emmerdale-the Fire,Lisas Story,The Return of Kelly,Nick storyline

Corrie-The wedding,The return of Tracey,The aftermath of the tram crash

EastEnders The baby swap.

I think they are building up the storylines and across a few weeks we will have the climax to whitney storylines, the Reveal to the Baby swap,Phill and Shirleys wedding,The max storyline.
Some New cast memebers coming in over the next few weeks aswell as a family at some point

Apart from Last year (for obvious reasons) The start of the year usually can be quite quiet for EastEnders and it tends to have the big things happening around march time

Factually speaking January & February are when people in this country are at their coldest, poorest and subsequently their least sociable. The best possible conditions and fair game for big TV ratings. Its nobody's fault but their own if they don't use that to their own gain.

I don't agree things only get going for EE in March either, the middle months of the year are notoriously hit and miss for EE. History shows us that in terms of storytelling, around about Autumn fall it really picks up, climaxes at the mid point of Christmas & New Year and starts bombing around May time coinciding with the start and end of the academic calender and British Winter Time. Its fairly uniform each year as well. Practically clock work.

Wow, ED has been so consistent this week, with the eps all posting 8m+, they've really had a fantastic January and February. Am I right in saying that their audience share for last night is their highest in years??

I don't know what its like in other places but this morning it was 9Oc at 6:00am and we have seen quite a warm week here.

All you have todo is look at past years threads and see at Mid Jan-Feb people saying how EastEnders isn't on form.

They usually have a good march-July and then Picks up from september onwards
(Give or take a few storylines)

Past years have shown big storylines going out in March and Aprill and fairly normal episodes after the Big New Years Storylines

Emmerdale's 8pm episode almost had more viewers than EastEnders. EastEnders, Hollyoaks and the 7pm Emmerdale were dented by the Liverpool match on Channel 5.

Hmmm... all the soaps were down week-on-week last night.
Corrie down 450k, Emmerdale 1m and EastEnders was down 1.34m week-on-week.

EastEnders was only very slightly ahead of Emmerdale and 1m short of Corrie.
What was it up against last night?

The Football was still on at 8:00pm over on Five so i think it was clear Both Emmerdale (7:00pm) and EastEnders would be dented

Giving EastEnders younger Demo im not surpised a football match will dent it.

Not a bad BBC 3 repeat rating and they are up on Mon and Tues

it seems Corrie was the only soap not to be affected by the football
with Hollyoaks rating under 1million and neighbours only pulled in 90k with it's earlier start and Home and away didn't get an evening showing

Dan , why is it that when EE has a poorish night do you put up excuses , yet when any other soap has one they are crap

I have NEVER said another soaps ratings have been crap
try and find me a past post if mine in the soap ratings thread.

Last Night isn't an excuse

The same thing happend last year with Liverpool Matches on Five EastEnders was dented with kick off being 7:30pm i think.

Last night the football Ran from about 5:30pm(ish)-8:00pm so the only soaps to miss out on being dented were the afternoon soaps and Corrie

Hollyoaks,Emmerdale at 7:30,Neighbours,EastEnders were dented

Lower ratings for all soaps last night than usual. Shame for Hollyoaks, they've been very consistent in ratings lately.

I cant imagine many Liverpool supporters being Emmerdale or Hollyoaks fans...perhaps they stole the remotes from the wives and girlfriends

I think that all the soaps were down apart from the 2nd Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The football effected Emmerdale in the 7pm and EastEnders at 7:30.

I think they will all be up again tonight.

Huh? All the ratings are normal. OK, slightly lower, but nothing out of the ordinary apart from 'Enders. Look at the shares Dan.

Doesn't look like anything major was on the other channels at 8pm.

EastEnders shouldn't be rating as low as a 33% share on a normal day, it's not really good enough. EE has been fluctuating a lot recently - it's been getting some low ratings but on the odd day it goes back up to 40%. No consistency at the moment.
