Corrie usually breaks 9million on both showings does it not?

Emmerdale has been over 8million all week.

I don't see this as a major problem and fullly expect things to return to normal next week

EastEnders shouldn't be rating as low as a 33% share on a normal day, it's not really good enough. EE has been fluctuating a lot recently - it's been getting some low ratings but on the odd day it goes back up to 40%. No consistency at the moment.”

I think a lack of big storyline is the reason for the Consistency though.

It seems we have had no big storylines for weeks and 3/4 are going to come at once

I would disagree with those saying EastEnders isn't consistent. It is consistent...

Emmerdale holding really strong & steady this month - great share for last night for them.

Looks like it will be marginally up on Feb last year, both in viewers & share.

I agree it will but that still doesn't explain last night. Nothing significant was on to dent EE at 8pm, and Corrie wasn't much lower than usual.

I've noticed the gap between those two has widened recently as well, after them snapping at each others heels for some time.

I don't think it's a 'crisis' though - EE will bounce back on Monday like it always does. Decent repeat rating as well.

Wow - Emmerdale has really turned it around. I'm really surprised they've out rated EE but good win for them there. I'm guessing EE but must be pretty poor at the moment to explain this - don't know myself as I haven't caught it since xmas.

It's not like they are that far apart and it's bound to be a 1 off so doesn't explain anything

Of course you are right in what you say but they *should* be quite far apart - with EE quite far ahead of Emmerdale - very unusual.

It's not been rating consistently crap though. For example, Tuesday's episode this week had 9.4m and a 40% share, while last Thursday it also had 9.4m (40%) and was just 0.1m behind Corrie.

Some days it's been close to Corrie, other days it's been well behind, so I think it's fair to say it's been inconsistent rather than "consistently crap".

What is normal though?

I thought EE and Corrie were fairly evenly matched with the number of viewers with only a few 100k in it and them swapping around a bit for top spot. That doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.

Eastenders-

Thats not a good rating- the share shouldn't be that low. It's not consustant at the moment ( ratings and quality wise.)

As for those saying that it's because they havn't had any big storylines recently... thats just an example of poor management.

Recently the gap between Eastenders and Coronation Street has widened again.. I rememner when EE was beating it or very, very close to it ratings wise. Not the case at the moment at all.

Good for Coronation Street and Emmerdale, those are doing very well at the moment .

Yes you're right the ratings havn't been consistently crap (will probs be around 9m again Mon) BUT Eastenders itself has been consistently crap for months now unfortunatley

Well done Emmerdale, well deserved as the Lisa storyline has been fantastic.

Eastenders seriously need to start hitting viewers with some decent storylines. They appear to be getting bored...

Very interesting D.M.N., thanks for that. Looking at the shares, Corrie and Emmerdale has held up very steady so far this year. However with EastEnders, there's been a clear decline in share in the last two weeks with ~36% rather than 38-40% it was getting in January.

Corrie and Emmerdale have had big storylines which have brought back some casual viewers to the show, for e.g. Valentine's Day for Corrie helped that week rate almost a million (+2% share) better than the previous week and the most recent week probably is feeling the aftereffects of that, with some of the casual viewers sticking with it. Seems like EastEnders could've done with a big "event" or storyline to bring back some casual viewers.

i am a huge EE fan but their is no denying that the ratings this year are disapointing, and that the quality of the show is poor. unless something drastic happens soon, i think it can become a bad year once more.

also, they need to replace that kirkwood man!

Thanks for that D.M.N-really interesting. Corrie has had a much bigger lead since the lead up to Valentines Day and has maintained that lead. Will be interesting to see if it can continue. Likewise Emmerdale has stepped up a gear with the fire reveal & the climax to Lisa's rape.

Also are they full slot averages or tapechecked?

Ratings haven't realy been that bad
Just the odd rating here and there.
Fridays obviously and mondays was lower then usual but not by Much.

Tuesday was 9.4m with 40% share and Thursday did well as all soaps (apart fromm corrie) were dented by the football

Tape-checked. (easier than trying to search through numerous threads for full slot)

Thanks..and I think in this case it's a fairer comparison considering Corrie always finishes early, Emmerdale is sometimes artificially boosted by Corrie and EE tends to start very early sometimes.

Monday 28 February Overnights
19:00- Emmerdale - 7.91m (35.3%)
19:30- Coronation St - 9.79m (40.5%)
20:00- EastEnders - 9.44m (36.4%)
20:30- Coronation St - 9.45m (37.2%)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Solid figures for all soaps. EE close to Corrie (especially the 2nd ep). Not in "crisis" like some would like to believe.
