1 week of lousy ratings and everything is in crisis eh?

Good figures for all soaps, especially Coronation Street, very good shares there, in particular the first episode.

someone was trying to say EastEnders is going to be axed soon

And it wasn't 1 week of Lousy ratings though as Tuesdays rated really well and Thursdays was ok but dented by the football

Ouch, Eastenders and Emmerdale both down week on week- Eastenders by 850k and Emmerdale 800K! For EE ratings seem pretty inconsistent for no reason as it was yesterday.

Not really. The share is high and the rating wasn't that bad
The BBC 3 repeat was quite good too.

You see if your going to make statements then at least look at the facts there was quite a few big football matches on yesterday (Chelsea Vs Manu for example) which would have no doubt dented both soaps

corrie may win in the ratings but remember emmy has an earlier time slot of 7pm and on average gets between 7 and 8 million viewers and more importantly a 35% audience share, many times beating EE audience share. also you have to bear in mind the corrie audience is very loyal and will watch whether it is on form or not and since the tram crash corrie has been rather ropey of late, with sloppy scripts. if we were to compare the three soaps on acting ability, interaction between the characters, pace, scripts, production, emmerdale wins on every account. and it has just won the prestigious broadcast award for the best continuing drama, well derserved.

Nicely put JohnBoy! Ratings aren't the be-all and end-all these days anyway are they?

It is a larger share of a smaller audience though, more people are watching TV at 19:30 or 20:00.

EastEnders is having a good week
Not much differance to Tuesdays rating and up 400k week on week.
Brilliant share and BBC 3 repeat Rating was quite good too.

Corrie and Emmerdale down 500k week on week but still good ratings

I wouldn't say EE is having a good week!! 8.4m is hardly a massive rating. And last week it was up against the football so it was bound to be up, but up by 0.4m is hardly a big deal. I'd sum last nights ratings as follows: solid for Emmerdale, whilst Corrie and EE are abit on the low side.

As for Emmerdale been down 500k week-on-week, where did you get this from? Last Thursday's double header had 7.1m and 8.0m...so up 0.6m and down 0.2m (rounded to one decimal place).

EDIT- the DS report is wrong...

February 2011 overnight averages:

Coronation Street: 9.4m (2010: 9.6m)
EastEnders: 8.7m (10.3m)
Emmerdale: 7.8m (7.5m)
------------------------------------------------
*To calculate the monthly average the full slot average for each episode was used. If the slot average wasn't reported then the tape-checked rating was used. The overnight averages inc. HD, but exc. +1.

Some interesting figures there. EE down a massive 1.6m. Last February was the 25th Anniversary so it was obviously inflated in 2010, to a massive 10.3m average, but still that's a large year-on-year decline. Corrie remains pretty stable shedding just 0.2m. However if +1 figures were taken into account, I think it would be pretty much dead level. Emmerdale is the only soap to increase y-o-y by 0.3m. Last month it was dead level too (8.1m v 8.1m) for the January averages comparisons. Again if +1 figures were included I think Emmerdale would be close to 8m for the February average.

Yearly average to date (Jan-Feb 2011):

Coronation Street: 9.6m (2010: 9.8m)
EastEnders: 9.2m (10.3m)
Emmerdale: 7.9m (7.8m)
----------------------------------------------
Again it's EE with the biggest drop of 1.1m, Corrie is down 0.2m and Emmerdale is UP 0.1m y-o-y. Again if +1 figures were included the y-o-y change would boost Emmerdale further and leave Corrie about dead level.

Also I don't think this has been mentioned in this thread yet, but Corrie is currently the most watched show of the year so far on 12.56m for an episode shown on 14th February showing the fallout of Leanne and Peter's non-wedding.
*12.56m is the official rating inc. HD

Wow I didn't realise that was the official figure for the episode, Corrie always timeshifts really well. It'll be interesting to see if EE beats that figure with the baby reveal in the spring but I can't see that happening TBH.

It looks like EastEnders Baby Reveal airs in an action packed week on Albert square
and airs on Friday 29th April (The Day of the Royal Wedding which will be shown on BBC1) and will also be a Public Holiday so the BBC will promote it hard

Actually Aprill looks like where EastEnders year will kick start off.

How does EE compared to February 2009? Comparing it to 2010 is obviously skewed by the huge rating the live episode (and some of the surrounding episodes) got. It was always going to be down by a large margin compared to then, just as how Corrie will be down this coming December by quite a lot compared to last December. I think if we were to compare the 8.7m to Feb 2009, we'd get a more fairer comparison for EE.

In which case we might also consider how the February 2009 average would have been deflated by the 4x Emmerdale clashes on Tuesdays which was not a fixture in February 2011.

If a quarter of all overnights in that month were 1-3 million short of the others (which was typical) then of course those figures for Feb 2009 will scew badly.

That figure for Eastenders seems abut on the low side. It should really be higher abut higher at this time of the year.

Emmedale seems to be loosing viewers abit now.

Coronation Street pulled in two very decent figures, very comfortably in in the 8 million+ zone.

8 million for coronation street is not really a decent figure, not for them at any rate. friday seems to be a low rating night for the soaps. perhaps we are all soaped up by friday and need a bit of a breather.

OK, so in 2009 the February average for EE was 8.7m. Exactly the same as 2011. The Corrie 2009 Feb average was 9.5m.

In February 2009, Emmerdale clashed with EE 3 times on the 3rd, 10th and 17th. Factoring out these 3 episodes (which drew 7.5m, 6.6m and 6.7m respectively) the month would have averaged 9.1m. Please note there was no clash on the 24th as Emmerdale only aired for 30 mins that day.

Hope that helps.
