ags_rule , you are right out of order.
It may be harmless fun to you and in your home area , it is not the same for others .My late mother was very frightened on Halloween and my sister would often spend the evening there . She was afraid to answer the door and afraid not to answer it .
In my area there have been dreadful problems with flour , eggs , dog poo through letterboxes , broken windows , car tyres let down and slashed and so on . On November1st on the estate we lived on, the roads and parked cars were covered in flour and eggs , so much so that the local shops refuse to sell them On Oct 31st.
There are always news reports the next day of about unpleasant attacks .
It is better than it used to be but I am not at all surprised that many old people living alone feel threatened .
The children of immediate neighbours is one thing , but we used to get dozens and dozens of calls from children from far and wide , some came in cars with parents !
My problem is this, Trick or treating is demanding something with menaces and under other circumstances it would not be tolerated; also parents who would normally be totally aghast if their children talked to strangers , allow them out on Halloween to accost people and threaten them with dire consequences if they don't get sweets.
You say children don't plan tricks ; I do not agree , they certainly do .In fact it is taken as an opportunity to vandalise .
Police in this area are very active on Halloween and advise those who do not want to be a part of the so called fun , to put notices up to that effect and to call the police quickly if there is a problem.
