dont get me wrong she has a great voice but not necessarily the best package... would be much better on a show like britan's got talent in my opinion. The public want something new and exciting, and it pains me to say this but like Cher, Aidan, One Direction etc...

One Direction - new and exciting? Like 100 pretty boybands we have seen before that never last.

Like or dislike her singing Mary comes across as basically a good person who has not had it easy in life. Not a spoilt brat like some contestants!

Ok- it was fair comment until the point where you called Cher and One Direction new and exciting

Then you lost me

I've nothing against Mary as a person, but I'm not a fan of her singing.

She seems to be trapped in a style of singing that consists of sleepwalking though the quiet bits and belting out the loud bits, and I don't think she's capable of imbuing emotion into every word of a song.

I thought Gamu could do that, which is why so many people were "disappointed" when she didn't make it to the finals.

Any singer has do a lot to captivate me (because I can't sing and I envy anyone who can). It's not impossible, but I don't think Mary is ever going to do it.

Mary is getting exposure and will never have to work in Tesco's again.
She will never be a megastar, but she is having the time of her life and is finally able to showcase her talent. This will surely lead to work, but with limited appeal.

Ok so she's not my cup of tea, but she has earned her place in the live shows. How far she goes is up to the GBP.................so I'm as clueless as the next person!!!

She's not the worst, but has little appeal, aside from sympathy voters; the cliche the defenders use is that she has a voice, that it's all about her voice, so her looks don't matter -- which they do, and her voice does nothing for me anyway.

Her age is also irrelevant; she does not have star appeal or the greatness in terms of vocals and quirky appeal of Susan Boyle. If a 50 year old man looked like George Clooney and sang even average, they'd be in with a good chance to win. Mary has let herself go, and was clearly never beautiful, and is borderline unsellable in the world of music as a recording artist. Tough, but the reality.

If she was younger and hot, people would not have blinked an eye - Trayc is far superior as a power singer.

She's a good singer but I'm not excited about her. I don't look forward to her performances.

I don't think she has, for lack of a better term, 'the x factor.'

I like her but I have original versions of the material she has covered thus far so she'd never get me reaching into my pocket to buy a poor imitation.

If she does more contemporary stuff she'd be quite different.

I have to admit I've gone off her a bit. I like Aiden, Rebecca and Matt, the rest I can take or leave, although I enjoy seeing what they do. Or try to do in a lot of cases

I'm not crazy on her as I think she's the classic one-trick pony. And I'm also not too happy with her being on the show considering she's already won a TV talent show and had a record released.

Ah yeah but nobody in Ireland watches TG4, winning that show is the equivalent of a pub competition. Nobody had ever heard of her through that.

How are One Direction "new and exciting", OP?

What is so exciting about them that makes them different from all other boybands? I genuinely don't see it.

Mary - Okay voice, nothing special a reasonably good club or cruise singer. Will always do the same sort of stuff in the real world. Sadly it's been done to death already. Not my favourite to leave but would be third in line.

I think she's utterly missable
average
she's had no harder life than may other people in the world
she's doing more than all right for herself ..given her mediocrity

I don't mind her either way, would be unlikely to ever buy anything she released.

I just think she's on the wrong show.

I'm tiring of the same old performances and I think the public will soon. Week 1 she was sensational but has since gone downhill: the same type of songs are damaging her, like Dannii and Simon mentioned a modern song would woek wonders for her. I'd also like to see some choreography rather than her stood there moving her arms about. Also the clothing is rather samey, Instead of constantly wearing black please can the stylists put her in something colourful!?
