Hi folks - so I now have my link to channel 10 and I can watch BBUSA live on line at 01.00hrs. So now the next question that comes to mind is how can I record this straight to my hard drive or cd so I can get some kip at night and watch it the next evening. Does anyone know of any half-decent freeware that runs with XP that can capture streaming video.

I know its a big ask and I'm not holding my breath - but you never know someone might know a trick or two.

Long answers welcome - brief expletive deletives already taken as read and so not strictly necessary

Been looking around the web all afternoon, but still no idea so far. The only option for me might be to use the 'TVout' socket hooked up to my video machine (somehow), I'll have to buy a lead. Does your computer have a TVout socket?

then select capture from screen, window, select the windows media player window, hit record... there's a setting somewhere for telling it to record for a set duration, but I don't have the software installed so couldn't tell you where.

Also 111MB is big --- and from your profile (ISP too embarassing) I'm guessing you may not be able to download it in time for tonight.

Cheers guys - the Camtasia is certainly interesting - but its too expensive for what I need - still its an option for the last 30 days of the season

Sadly my desktop is a little basic and doesn't have tv out or ethernet - and I don't wanna have to risk re-installing everthing just to put these cards in - and my laptop which does have these (and part ownership of my credit card LOL) isn't able to hold my DSL modem - it just keeps on losing it in hardware profile despite all my best efforts. So my (legal) options are really to find a Camtasia clone if I want a permanent solution.

I downloaded a little free application called 'Net transport' in the end. It appeared to record the live stream but I was watching it anyway. Today when I tried to re-watch it I couldn't find the recording, the programme seems ok though, it's obviously me

I'd seen this before but hadn't checked it out. I have now downloaded it and run it successfully - it also schedules start and stop which is very handy.

It is certainly successful for me on the channel 10 link which runs the BBUSA program.

For those that are security minded I took my download from this link

It showed no virus in checks with AVG and Stinger.exe (both updated)
It requests to place a browser helper on your system - this is part of its program and is nothing sinister according to all the hi-jack logs I have checked.

So this should be a safe download - it is effectively freeware although the author is encouraging it to be seen as shareware.

It takes a little familiarising yourself with - but it does work for me on my windows XP DSL link.

Re not being able to find the recording - it acts like most downloads and places it in C:\ Download unless you tell it to direct it elsewhere.
I also need to run WMP to play the files at the moment - it says it doesn't recognise the file type but will try if instructed - and once given instruction plays it fine.
