The backing singers drowned her out. Thankfully.

If she had sang like that from the beginning she wouldn't have made it this far. It was quite good but tedious. They couldn't hype that the way they hype the rapping.

Haven't had any time for her up to tonight but thought she was great tonight.

I'm highly suspicious of people's motives when they can't even concede that tonight was pretty darn good.

Her best performance I think. I've hated all the others. I was fearful she wouldn't be able to resist flinging in a rap.

I think tonight separated the haters from those that just didn't think she could sing. Some posters are giving credit where it's due, some just keep on with the attacks, they have lost all credibility but haters gonna hate as they say

The judges always have their favourites but this year it's worse than ever, they are so blatant about it. If they love the girl so much - just give her a recording contract - and see if she lasts

Even Dermot passed Cher a tissue (which she didn't use) seemed so contrived

I think she was better than usual, but I am just not a fan.

I've certainly conceded here. Enjoyed her performance, first time I have so far.

She ruined it . They lowered the key which totally changed the song and the second part of the song was not powerful enough . It lost everything the song was about for me .

I've been very anti Cher, I really dislike her rap, but I agree to slag her performance off tonight is questionable as to why as credit where credits due, she did really well - I was execting a carcrash with that song but it was executed really well.

hmm it was in a lower key maybe but I don't think it wrecked it, it sounded good.

I think a lot of people are giving her credit because she sang in tune which they didn't expect. However, her voice is so so and there were plenty that were better at boot camp.

Agree. I wasn't convinced over the series but I'll give her credit tonight. Saying she was sh*t is frankly immature.

The judges comments are ridiculus. An average performance would be a generous way to describe it. She was pitchy and when she was in tune her voice was thin, weak and has no power. Even Katie is better.

I think so too. And if she carries on singing she will go because there are better singers. At least the rap is a gimmick. She's between a rock and a hard place now.

My thoughts exactly.

Some people are coming across as very silly.

It's all contrived. It's all nonsense. It make me sick.

I don't think she sang well, her voice is weak. I don't hate her, I just don't think she can sing well enough to win this contest over others who are streets ahead of her. She is given a great song, the best slot in the show and the judges fawn over her, way over the top in fact. Do you want fms to tell lies?

Yes, tonight she was really good compared to her previous performances.

Sadly (for her) her voice really doesn't measure up to previous performers of the same song, so it only served to highlight that she's not a star.

I thought she was ok in the programme tonight but others were far better.

She isn't even average. She's as good as any 17 year old who can hold a tune and gets up on the karoake or enters a talent contest. Ok at best she deserves praise for stepping out of her comfort zone and doing something that she hasn't done before. But when she decides to sing only she can only be directly compared to all the other acts on the show and when it comes to singing she falls really short.

I think she got the top slot because they realised that she perhaps wasn't as popular as they had first thought. I wondered if her crying was more because she was worried how her performance would come across this week. For the first time we are able to compare her to the others, and she's stepping out of her rap comfort zone.

I don't like the girl, but for me, that was her best performance. I liked her styling and the whole atomosphere of it. The singing didn't blow me away, but it's the first time I've been able to sit and watch a whole song of hers without thinking it's time to go make a cuppa.
If she finds out she's gone down well with the public, I can just see her getting all cocky again, and the thought of that, let alone if she does it, will put me off her even more.

It was a good vocal performance--for her. She usually just speaks during her performances so I guess this was an improvement.

It was what it was. She has limited range, poor control, terrible nasally tone. The top notes were horrendous. It's was like watching someone jumping up and down trying to reach the ceiling but never quite managing... just kinda scraping it.

The top slot had to follow last week when they realised she was in big trouble. The fake tears, then Simon's hyperbolic praise. Ugh, the whole lot.

I'm not going to go over the top and say she's suddenly persuaded me that she's the best thing ever, don't think I'll ever be a fan, just not my cup of tea.

However I willingly take back what I said about her being unable to hold a tune - she was pretty good tonight. Better than Rebecca? No, not for me, but if her aim was to prove she can sing, I'd say she made her point and made it well.

The judges were WAY over the top though, especially Simon - it was by no means the performance of the series, and I would question the credibility of any forum member who agreed with Simon on that - Cher's performance of the series maybe, but not overall out of all the contestants.

Now she can build on that - no reason why she can't do a mash of singing and rapping without the loud backing drowning her out.
