Is changing the clock something I have to do, or will it happen automatically?
I know when it's hooked up to the PC it'll probably change but I try and avoid plugging it in since every firmware update seems to bring new headaches!

The IPhone changes it's clock for GMT time automatically so you shouldn't have to change it manually.

Thanks for the info D.H

Hey no problem the only thing I would recommend is if you have any automatic alarms enabled on your phone I would disable them and switch them to manual there is a slight glitch in iOS 4.1 which means that the automatic alarms will go off one hour earlier after the changeover Apple are fixing this issue in iOS 4.2 in November.

I see. I think!

Coincidentally, I do need to set my alarm tonight as I'm going to London tomorrow. Does this mean that I can't set the alarm until after the phone has changed its clock? I want to get up at 8am.
Or should I play it safe and dig out a normal alarm clock?!!

It should be fine as long as you set a one off alarm on the iPhone and not a recurring alarm the glitch affects the recurring alarm and makes it go off an hour earlier.

I understand.
I shall set it now and enjoy the extra hour!
Thanks again.

It won't matter if something goes wrong, because 8am -> 7am, so you'd simply end up being woken an hour later.

Well, I say it won't matter...if something stops the alarm going off at all you'd probably need to worry. But that's no more likely than any other night of the year.

I woke up an hour late this morning

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20101101...o-a7ad41d.html

I have now worked out that I need to set my alarm to 5.15 instead of 6.15 until they have patched it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

But ironically, if something goes wrong with alarms at this time of year then it's usually a case of being early and not late (because the clock hasn't adjusted). When I made my post, I didn't anticipate the clock changing but the alarm not...what kind of stupid system do Apple use?

It's only a problem on alarms that have already been created afaik.

If you simply delete existing alarms and create new ones it'll work as before.

Shame that Apple, who manage to e-mail me 6 times whenever there's something new to buy, didn't think to make more of an effort to warn people of the bug. I woke up at 7.30, my 6.51 alarm went off at 7.51.

No I created a new one earlier just to see what would happen- I set it for 10.45 and it went off at 11.45!!

The only way around it is to create one off alarms every day, or to create a roling alarm to go off every day (not selected days).

This should be fixed in the next firmware update later this month.

Engadget have an article on this and explain more - http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/i...across-europe/

I thought there was more to it than just using alarms that had already been set.

I thought I was going mad because I distinctly remember resetting all my alarms yesterday.

Just tried it there to be sure.

Set an alarm for a minute later and off it went, on time. I physically deleted all current alarms until there aren't any left (edit > delete) and then created a new one using the + symbol.

EDIT: this was going on information I read on Engadget earlier before Kester posted and I read the updated Engadget article.

But try setting it to repeat, except for "everyday" (e.g. "weekdays" or "every Monday").

Yeah, as I just edited. When I initially posted and then replied it was from stuff I'd read earlier.

I'm just pleased I had today as holiday, my morning 6:25am alarm, went off at 7:25am.

I've deleted and reset my mon-fri alarm, so I'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm not back to work until wednesday, so may be I'll get a lie-in, or may be not!

That won't work, see the engadget article I posted earlier. Only non-recurring or every day (mon-sun) alarms are working.

Set my weekday alarm for 5.15 and it duly went off at 6.15 which is the correct time I need to wake up (although my son was under strict instruction to wake me up if I was still in bed when he got back from his paper round).

If you leave the clock to set itself automatically then it will change itself. I did notice the alarm had problems though. The alarm went off at 6:40 this morning rather than 5:40, even though the clock is correct and the alarm says 5:40. Apparently this is a known issue that affects us in Europe.

Hopefully Apple fixes it in 4.2.

This Problem was reported in New Zealand and Australia earlier last month when their clocks changed from one time zone to another and the same bug is now affecting European Customers now Apple know about this issue and a patch is supposed to be added to iOS 4.2 next month.

It would be so much easier if we did away with DST or have the clocks change worldwide at the same time. It must be a pain in the butt for manufacturers although Apple has been doing this stuff on its computers for years now so they should really know what they are doing by now, the iPhone can't be that different as it is based on OS X.
