So where were the Argentine Tango's?

I was looking forward to seeing some good tango's but I've not seen any.

I thought Len was right about doing lifts for the sake of showing off lifts; that whole dance had nothing to do with an original AT and I've not seen Matt do any AT moves or steps at all.

Tina did do some AT steps (very badly done), but the dance itself didn't look anything like an AT and Graig was absolutely right in his criticism.

Maybe we have to wait for either Vincent or Flavia to do a real AT, or the judges need to up their knowledge of the dance.

You are right (well officially anyway as that didn't look much like a jive...), but I got the names mixed up....

Tina was supposed to be doing the argentine tango although if I hadn't been told I would never have guessed as it didn't look anything like one. I hope the other female celebs make a better attempt if and when they have a go at it. Perhaps it was too soon to include it?

It would help if the music was of a higher standard, and appropriate for the dance. The music choices appear to have got even worse this series.

As for the band, have heard better in pubs!

I don't think there are many Halloween-themed Argentine tango tunes to pick from......they should have picked other dances for Tina and Matt this week! Argentine Tango is my favourite dance, but these two has no chance with a Halloween theme....they were ruined before they began!

That's a good point, I think there was a poor frantic person on a mission to find any music that was even vaguely appropriate. Think Tina and Matt should have had other dances. I normally like Matt but wasn't convinced by him either last night

The only bit in Matt's dance which looked anything like an Argentine Tango was the beginning when they had their heads close together. Otherwise nothing like it.

I was really disappointed with the ATs last night.

I do think it should be kept as a semi final dance.

In response to the OP's thread title question, there didn't appear to be any!

Not that I could see, anyway

They were awful. An abomination. But we seem to have lost pretty well all link between the dance title and actual content. Apart from Natalie. She choreographs a proper dance, does Natalie.

David James did call Tina and Jared's effort an AT, but that was before they started to dance. He later admitted that he'd been suckered into believing the announcer.

I think it is possible that either Vincent or Flavia give the pro dancers tips on the AT. They are champions after all.

Vinthia always used to be involved in AT choreography. Shown in the rehearsal rooms advising. Maybe they did this time but it wasn't shown.

The show have outside choreographers who advise on the Argentine Tangos. Its up to the pros if they have any lessons outside the Strictly season to learn the genre.

I think Vincent and Flavia did give some help to Ricky and Natalie last year but other than them, I don't think they have openly helped anyone else other than Mark and Karen in the first year.

I was put off very much by the music choices, had they been better then possibly the choreography would've been better.

The dances and the dancers have become merely incidental this year.
The show, particularly last night's debacle, is a vehicle for costume, make-up and lighting to exhibit their skills.
Even the judges performances seem scripted and rehearsed and we, the audience, have to be 'entertained' whether we like it or not.
Enjoying the standard to which each couple perform has, for some reason, been deemed by somebody as unworthy.
It became necessary to remove some of the professional dancers who we had learned to respect and admire and replace them with unknowns, lest the spotlight was focussed on them and the music selected to make it practically impossible to determine which dance is being performed at any given time, in order that the judges scripts can be followed without criticism from us.

Finally a compliant audience recruited from the X-Factor queue who will whoop and cheer on command tell us which dances are regarded as 'the most entertaining' so the names of the dances become irrelavent

The Argentine tango is one of my favourite dances and I didn't really see one during this show. Disappointed also that Flavia or Vincent didn't get the option to dance it with their partners, maybe those who must be obeyed thought they may have an unfair advantage. I think very few of the dances this series resemble what they are supposed to represent - just a load of show dances coreographed purely to entertain, and sometimes they actually do.

when you consider rachel and vincent's AT, or mark and karen's, the ones last night were really poor

Is this the earliest episode that the AT has been danced? Maybe this is one of the problems? Better that the better dancers create the more challenging dances imho.

I entirely agree. The ATs last night were travesties.

I couldn't believe he got such a high mark, not to mention a standing ovation

It wasn't her choreography - she made a good attempt at what she was asked to do.
