Can anyone help me re setting up email on iPhone

Hi

I have my yahoo email set up to come through on my iPhone. I am trying to see if it is possible to get my work email to come through but I am really struggling to set it up so not sure if it is possible?

In work i use Microsoft Outlook. Has anyone else set this up for themselves that can help me with simple instructions as I'm not the most technical? We don't have an IT dept in work to ask as it is outsourced and my contact there is anti iPhones so is not very helpful.

Thanks

It's very unlikely that your work e-mail server would allow pop/imap connections from the internet, generally only intranet access would be allowed.

Are you able to access your email from outside of work using Outlook Web Access (ie. through the internet)? If so, it may be possible - if not, it probably isn't.

See here then:

The mail server will likely be the web address you use for Outlook Web Access, give it a try.

Thanks for this. I will have to see if I can get the IP address from work tomorrow and then try it.

Thanks again

Do you actually use an IP address though when using web access? Or do you type something like "mail.mycompany.com" into the web browser?

If you do then enter that as the server address in your iPhone. I don't have an iPhone but do have an iPad and that is how I can access the company e-mail from that. I doubt the iPhone is that much different. The set-up looks pretty much identical to the link provided by pi r squared.

BTW don't put in the http:// bit just what comes after in the web browser address bar.

I have put in the server address as well as opposed to the IP address and that won't connect either. When i log in outlook web access I use the website address which is the ipaddress/remote/logon and then key in username and password then click on connect to web access.

What am i doing wrong?

In theory if you can log on to your work e-mail from any PC connected to the internet simply by typing in a web address into a browser then you ought to be able to do the same with the iPhone.

At the very least you should be able to get at it from the web browser on the iPhone which may well indicate if the work mail system really is accessible from the outside world.

I assume you are using a web browser to get into your work e-mail remotely? And that it does work from any PC not just a work provided laptop? If it only works from a work provided laptop than there could be some security lock down in place.

I have the same problem and read somewhere that it might be to do with too many emails sitting in your inbox. I have over a thousand emails sitting there which I haven't had chance to archive yet so once I get the chance I'll clean it up and try again. Does this sound like it could apply to you too?

No I clear my inbox a lot - there is only 11 in my inbox at present.

When setting up the mail account should I be saying yes or no to using SSL?

If the iPone is anything like the iPad it will try SSL and if it can't connect offer to turn it off. So no harm trying it on.

One other thing you might want to try is something in the Domain field (which that link says to leave blank). Next time you log on at work, hit the Options box underneath username and password and see what domain you're logging in to - then enter the exact same domain into the Domain field on the setup screen.
