Anyone else getting fed up with the number of standing ovations this series? Time was when an ovation meant something, given after a truly memorable dance. this series there are several each week - they are now meaningless.

One abbreviation....DWTS....

I don't think its just that as loads of people who watch SCD don't watch DWTS. I wondered if the audience were encouraged to do this in the studio - has anyone on here been to a live show this series as the "problem" is far worse atm.

That's what I was cryptically referring to , MG, i.e. that the culture of standing up might be being encouraged in the studio, and maybe that has been influenced by DWTS.

It's the same idea as the moronic clapping and cheering everytime anyone hit a high note in Poperastar.
The enchavening of entertainment.

I have decided that enchavening will be by new favourite word. Must try to use it as often as possible.

Back on topic I think I did read on here from someone that went to a show that they had been 'encouraged' to do standing ovations.

I read that here too.

It irritates me soooo much when they do it

I just don't understand the surprise in Bruce's voice when he cries "Look at that, look at that! THEY'RE ON THEIR FEET!!" when virtually every dance gets a standing ovation.

Yeah, it's actually worse than the DWTS-esque standing ovation.

According to people who have been to SCD they are ordered to stand by the floor managers.

Perhaps everyone is standing up to go to the loo to throw up!
The only memorable part of their dances are Ann's outfits. Couldn't honestly tell you what Anton was doing apart from impersonating the school cleaner.

Its clear to see that the audience are giving Ann and Anton standing ovations out of genuine affection, I must admit I do look forward to seeing Ann's costumes each week, and I have been wondering if Anns coloured leggings are a first for Strictly Come Dancing.

Blimey. You had to do some deep excavation to unearth this thread, didn't you?

I'm fed up with the number of standing ovations. To me, standing ovations used to mean that a performance was exceptional and you only stood up if you felt that was the case. Now they seem to happen on SCD just because the celebrity turned up - weekend 1 was awash with ovations after every performance

From reports of audience members on here it seems people are being forced to stand up for them on the instructions of the floor managers/warm up acts etc - you might be able to get away with sitting down if you're in the back rows of the gallery but if you are downstairs and in view of the tv cameras, you are pretty much obliged to stand up along with everyone else because otherwise it's going to look really bad on air.

I would much rather just see standing ovations for performances that have really earned them and I don't think that we have seen many, if any, routines this series worthy of that honour. I would also like it to return to being a matter of personal choice whether an audience member stands up for an ovation.

The standing ovation has been somewhat devalued by overuse

TerryM22 - if she's so great, why aren't you posting in her appreciation thread?

Is she paying you to say all these things, or are you a WUM? Because you're certainly coming across as one.

Had I been there I would have picked up my chair and thrown it towards the manager's solar plexus, explaining,

"Thank you most kindly sir. As I have 11 more standing ovations to do, my chair is hardly needed."

All who attend in future are cordially invited to consider this unselfish donation of furniture.

I have actually been quite surprised at the racy nature of Ann's coloured leggings given that she draughted her own contract imodesty clause, I wasn't expecting to see bare unfettered ankle and calf, not everyone is pleased though, Ken the Irish foot fan has been complaining on twitter that he can't see Ann's toes!

I'm sure the standing ovations that Ann is recieving are genuine and heart felt, floor managers can't create that kind of genuine response.

What does this have to do with the topic of the thread, i.e. standing ovations?
