How I hated it when everybody jumoed on the U2 bandwagon when they released the Unforgetable Fire - and yes this is all meant tounge in cheeck before I get flodded with "what i really hate is people who...." repliesI'm sure it was a case that the guy in the shop knew what I liked and had an expensive import to sell and I was the mug to shell out the money. Originally posted by DanVitale Definately, of course it does come down to personal taste when you talk about music. I think the biggest barrier to U2 beign taken as seriously inspiring was Bono's 80's flag waving and 'earnest' proclamations.I dont know about anyone else, but after the events of September 11th you wouldnt believe the number of people who came up to me and said how much more All That You Cant Leave Behind meant to them. Now if thats not inspiring I dont know what is. Quote:
Originally posted by DanVitale As much a U2 fan I am I have to say the performed the worst live event of any established band I have ever seen, it was Wembley in 1984 they palyed for less than an hour and seemed totally disinterested in what they were doing, and their support (the Waterboys) where equally uninspired on that night. I have seen both acts subsequently and they both redeemed themselves. U2 were such a disappointment having seen them on the War and Boy tours both of which were excellent.I went to see them at Slane last year, and along with JJ72, Coldplay and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. All of those bands had amazing passion for playing live (the Chilli Peppers especially). Out of interest 2 other artists that seem to get a real buzz out of playing live and who I have never been disappinted by are Sting and UB40 Quote:
Originally posted by DanVitale Can't agree with you on any of that sadly, compilations are great as samplers for types of music, banning covers would have deprived me of the Mermais Avenue albums, Kirst McColls version of New England, the Jam's version of David Watts, Sandie Shaw's version of Hand In Glove, Madness's It Must Be Love, the Specials Liquidator (the list goes on) and finally I've never subscribed to the vinyl is better than CD argument, each format hs it's place and CD's are more convienentIts a shame the music industry has got so money hungry that the people who love making and selling music no longer can stand out. *sigh*... Ban compliations and covers and bring back vinyl!!!! Quote:

There is plenty of good music around; it's just not in the top 40.
Dig a little deeper.

i can't stand U2, they make boring songs & tried in vain to appeal to a younger audience in recent years.
Their music is just awful & boring! New Years Day is the ONLY song by them i actually like & they released that over 20 years ago!

I used to like U2 but went off them after they released the awful Zooropa in 1993. Ever since then theyve sounded like poor imitations of themselves. Same old gitar riffs, but the melodies are further and fewer between |

Originally posted by jon72 I agree they went off the rails around aboutthe time of Zooropa, and if you read between the lines in interviews I think they agree to a certain extent. All That You Can't Leave Behind is packed full of decent melodies, although the unmistakeable 'sound' is there admitedly.
