Having said the above, their new coverage map is extremely dodgy. At least in my area (and others, according to the original thread on it) they are vastly exaggerating the "outdoor coverage" for 3G. The "indoor coverage" is accurate, if it were described as being the total 3G coverage area.
O2 must be investing all this money in a mapping system with the truthfulness of the Iraqi Information Minister. Says should have full 3G signal indoors and out, in reality my brother and sister rarely get a 3G signal in the house, not a chance downstairs, can sometimes get 1 bar upstairs. Notice you can only view the internet signal when zoomed to a close level? Me thinks they dont want you to zoom out and be able to view it for very large area or you would be shocked

So it's better for Orange to have 3G coverage where there isn't anyone to use it than in one of the largest suburbs of Bristol?
Orange and 3/T-Mobile have managed to roll out networks that cover great amounts of the country, urban and rural. O2 and Vodafone have not. At least Vodafone's network works, and they offer their femtocell if you really want a 3G signal. I was perhaps exaggerating in my definition of rural, but that doesn't change things. |

But Orange doesn't have 3G coverage in rural areas at the expense of urban areas - it's a pretty ludicrous way of rolling out a network if they did
I was absolutely stunned to see that I could use my Orange dongle there on 3G, but nothing from any of the other networks - this is a pretty recent development too. 3 months ago there was only the poorer 2G signal from Orange. |

I know a place about 15 mins out of Bristol where Orange is the only network with coverage (3 or 4 bars of 3G, 3 of 2G) and absolutely NOTHING from any of the other networks - 2G or 3G.

MBNA is a credit card company isn't it? MBUK is what you mean.
Also regardless of the network share the networks have their separate backbone internet connections and capacity. |
