Casualty was good last night. Ruth and Jay getting a happy ending was brilliant and well deserved after all they have been through, but one thing i would have liked cleared up is his grandmother. We were told she was dying around the time of his cancer at the beginning of the year but now he has left we wont know anything about Jay's grandmother.

I watched the 2 latest episodes this evening as I'd recorded them, mainly because I wanted to know the Jay/Ruth outcome before I watched. I couldnt have seen it if either of them had perished in the fire....cowardly or what!
Anyway, apart from not seeing a single fire hose throughout the second episode, I thought it was OK. Thought that junkie bloke was a bit OTT and the Dylan/Sam thing a bit contrived, but I was more than pleased that the 2 lovebirds drove off across the Clifton Bridge to a new life. |

I'm glad they got their happy ending one thng thatbugged me though in the case of a fire don't the doors in a building on security locks open. I guess for the first bit they get away with it by saying the alarm wasn't set but for the rest why were they locked

What happens to the people in Holby city. Isn't the spin-off set in the same hospital?
![]() Also, is the next series supposed to be set in Cardiff or is it just filmed there and Bristol on screen. |

Bad continuity - in the first episode of Holby City Duffy went up in the lift from the ED ended up in Dawin we've seen this happen many times including when Charlie had his heart attack in Casulaty & went upstairs to Holby City but in other episodes of both shows they have made out that there are two buildings on the same site one which has the ED & the other that has Dawin, Keller, AAU ect these two buildings are linked by an underground passageway thing hense blowing up the ED results in nothing happening to the rest of the hospital. The separate bulidings will be the excuse used on Tuesday if the fire is mentioned at all

its a bit silly because when you see in holby where on earth is casualty in that building ? its just not possible. why on earth they pretend they are in the same building is beyond me
surely it would be better to say they are in the same town but not far from each other? wow i thought millie was gonna die something like that has happened before in a film or something i cant remember and they really did die lol

I thought that the final two episodes of Casualty were pure class!!
And I was so relieved that Ruth and Jay weren't killed off. It is back on January 7th after a well earned rest. Will look forward to that. |

I think in a way it's good that there were no deaths at all in the episode. Nobody expected that. Also, I suppose the main casualty in the episode was the hospital itself. And rightly so.
Its just a shame that the special effects didn't live up the same standard as those seen in Boiling Point. I like the fact that Matt Bardock (Jeff Collier) was in Boiling Point as the main antagonist setting fire to the hospital, and here he is nearly 20 years later saving lives as the same hospital burns down again! |

I always think of the part of the hospital featured in Holby City as being that building we sometimes see to the right of the ED building as it looks quite similar to the one that Holby City uses as the exterior at Elstree.
But yes, certainly in the early days of Holby City, Darwin Ward was referred to as being "upstairs" from the ED. Maybe it's moved over the years?! Casualty is getting it's own post-ED ward on the new set, so maybe that wll become the new "upstairs" ward?Certainly a big hospital!

I don't think hospitals have windows that can be opened so that somebody can climb out of it.

I maintain though - when Holby City reaches "A&E going bang in 2011" in their timeline, I reckon there ought to be cylinders by beds.. as the piped gas system is completely f*cked... |

I've just rewatched Boiling Point and Next of Kin to compare the two. The fire effects in Boiling Point are certainly real flames on set. However, no flames get anywhere near the cast - there is always a clear path through the flames. Given the additional health and safety restrictions that exist now and the fact that the current Casualty set isn't fireproof, it would have been impossible for the production team to do any better than they actually did. One trick which was employed during some scenes of Boiling Point was to have a lot of smoke and orange lights (out of sight) to create the illusion of a raging fire even though very few flames were in shot. The producers of Next of Kin seemed to want flames to appear to be dangerously close to the characters. If they had kept the flames to a suitable distance and used similar tricks as seen in Boiling Point, the fire could have been much more realistic. It's such a shame when cgi doesn't work!
