I suspect that when there is any significant news you'll see a new thread.

I can't imagine that it's the sort of thing anyone would keep to themselves.

I'm not expecting anything before mid/late summer, TBH.

Are you suggesting that Humax have been lying to us and this has not been programmed?

At one point they were saying a release was imminent.

Then it was delayed because they said it failed testing and they were trying to get it working.

Then they wanted input from users on what they wanted.

Now it's not going to happen?

Caveat:

Of course in all the maelstrom of comments and counter comments I can't be sure which of the above came directly from Humax and which has been reported in posts such as the one you made which I quoted above or relayed as 'heard on another site'.

I saw a press article on a interview with Humax U.K. where the forthcoming update was mentioned - and that it included a solution to the power cut problem, recording from the budder (a customer requested feature and several under the hood changes which most users would not notice. I can't remember where I saw it or I would have quoted this url.

That was my understanding from information I had gleaned secondhand.

So I don't know what 'Barry' is getting at - unless he is privy to new information.

However Barry generally is privy to info us mere mortals don't have access to . Maybe there are big problems getting over the lack of encryption of the recording buffer. Not that BBC1-HD seem to be bothered about lack of encryption

It's not a facility that I personally would find very usefull, it works fine on a Toppy 5800 but I have never used it. .

If I fancy a programme having 3 pvrs I record it, trouble is even being retired I can't watch everything recorded anyway

LOL, even with just 1 PVR I find myself in that position.

Maybe when I retire I'll be able to keep up with it and even make a dent in all the DVD's I have backed up to watch.

Don't bank on it, I often wonder how I managed to find time to actually go to work

I feel that Humax have now got hopes that it's update on it's freeview HD PVR that gives it BBC Iplayer, Sky Player, Internet radio and others is in place and working fine, that it may turn to it's freesat boxes with the same update that give a second layer of Iplayers to the box with BBC Iplayer & ITV player both having a epg number now.

So look out for sky player and others being the next update with any other needed items like sound fix that is set too low by it own system as it's freeview box is much better with sound levels.

I saw this on Humax's Facebook:

"For Freesat fans, we're checking in with our development team about planned updates for FOXSAT-HD and FOXSAT-HDR boxes. We don't think there's anything new in the pipeline just yet, but will post here when we know more."

I'm wondering if this is the start of us hearing it's being dropped. Doesn't look too hopeful to me. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic.

You mean the status of the promised upcoming upgrade has not been a permanent red-inked item on their weekly checklist? Colour me not surprised.

This from Humax last week, in response to 'when, and what will it contain?':

Unfortunately we have no dates yet for any future updates, you can register for email updates if you'd like by visiting our website

Funny bunch - great product, but they seem to have hired people from my local council to run the front-of-house.

Maybe we should mail Graham North at Humax and ask him what has happened to the upgrade. I'm sure one of the e-mails he sent out quarter 3 (ish) last year stated they were testing the new firmware which fixed the power cut bug and added record from buffer (a customer requested feature).

If there is no upgrade to the software and we are forgotten about in favour of the new Humax box that is coming out, I would be pretty pissed off and would probably never buy Humax again. That's pretty shitty customer service.

I live in hope though that the update is not too far away, even though we have been waiting for god knows how long on it.

Sorry, very regrettable but better to get it working first before transmitting it!”

It's nearly four months since Bob_Cat's statement on 1st November (this thread post #2) - rather a protracted time scale?

You are not joking! Mind you it's better that it is right when it finally arrives.. fingers crossed it's not going to be too long now though..

I have just received the following email from Humax

Quote:
“Dear xxxxxxx,

The software update for the FoxsatHDR is due soon however unfortunately we do not have a confirmed date at this moment in time.

As soon as a date has been confirmed we will email you to let you know.

I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

Kind regards,

Michael

Good news that they are still progressing - it missed a program last week due to a power cut that happened while I was at work.

Hopefully raydon will be able to do his magic on the new firmware and enable the media and file server capabilities?

I have a funny feeling Humax will try their best to prevent this from happening, seems to be a trend here in the UK to lock everything down.

Would be good if raydon altered the current firmware to prevent automatic download of newer firmware so that it Humax do alter stuff to prevent it being hacked again we have a choice as to update or not.

I was just thinking the same.

(Even if they do lock it down I intend buying a second unit and, now that Ireland has a reasonable DTT Service, kicking out Sky. All that's stopping me now, is the problems with the live pause on the HDR.)
