Not sure if this is new but not noticed it before. The display now shows the station name and the current time. On replay of a recording also shows elapsed time. Strangest thing after replaying a bit of a recording gone back to live TV and the time has disappeared

It's always done that last part and I'm pretty sure it's always done the other also but since we are actually watching a recording at the moment, I can't confirm that...

Why has the time disappeared on live TV. All I did was play a few seconds of a recording. Stopped replay and dropped back to real time, the time has disappeared

That's how it works under the current released version. It's always been that way.

It's funny how we can use things day after day and not really be sure what they do.

I thought that was how it had always been but there was no way I had the confidence to post that until I'd put on the box and double checked.

Got to agree with that, after a firmware upgrade you tend to look closely at things you tend to normally ignore. One suggestion is that I had the live channel time shifted. Maybe I leant on the remote pause key without noticing.

I've updated and I've lost text, BBC red button flashes up and then disappears.

Perhaps this beta needs its own thread?

Also has all the text shrunk on this forum?

Again, that is normal behaviour. If you stay on any BBC channel long enough, although the red button DOG comes up straight away just to make you aware its available, after a time, it gets removed from the screen. Doesn't mean that pressing red won't still work though...

Its great behaviour too, I hated pressing the green button every time you change channel or come back from an ad break.

No credit me with a bit more sense. I've pressed Txt and Red. Ive also tried 999 GGBGG and it loads to blank, previously it worked on ITV player. Strange I think need to go back

Working OK on my hdr - factory reset maybe.

Upgraded my living room one okay.

No new boot loader? I still have 7.53 when readme says 7.54

And in readme no mention of any fixes relating to failed recordings

Factory reset has sorted it out and Txt is back. Cannot see any real differences

Has anyone found the differences yet? Is it worth taking the risk with this beta release?

After such a long wait, if there are any changes they must all be under the bonnet with no changes to the UI.

It does seem a bit faster but that may be because the ftp app has been erased (assuming it has).

It would be nice to have the new Boot Loader which may be needed to recover from a power cut.

Any news on an updated FTP mod from Raydon. I notice that it is currently unavailable to download.

There's a kernel update:

Linux version 2.6.12-4.2-brcmstb (ohs@vanilla) (gcc version 3.4.6) #1 Wed Dec 8 10:20:47 KST 2010

Curiously the "settop" binary contains the following strings:

killall tinyftp
NET_MSG
NET_T
tinyftp -i %s -p %s -c /media &
HumaxFTP

Tried connecting by ftp to see if the beta includes ftp - does not appear to.

REPASSAC are you able to reflash it with previous firmware and downgrade ?

I can't be sure but I don't think you do need the new loader. I powered off the box after the upgrade and unlike before it seems to a double boot before returning to sby. I will test it tommorow with a test recorrding.

Just updated and I will give the power handling a test tomorrow. ITV Player is still a bit ropey though. When do ITV launch the MHEG code for real?

Edit: And the stereo down-mixing does not affect the surround sound if surround is turned on in the set up, which is my earlier worry allayed.

I've upgraded and then reinstalled the ftp/telnet patch and ftp works as before.

No obvious benefits from the upgrade apart from the power cut handling.

I'm not 100% positive but the overscan that was present on the SCART output seems slightly worse! (I use scart for SD stuff as it gives a better picture on my TV - only use HDMI for HD).

does twonky and the others kick in too ? wonder if the kill commands are false ?

Those commands look like they are running their own ftp server, rather than trying to kill the one that people have added on.

There's no apparent FTP server running on the new firmware though.
