The thing that threw me was that when I put the box into standby after turning it on after it 'failed', it went into its "waiting for recording" standby. I had assumed that if it had gone into this mode when being put into standby then it should have been in that mode in the first place.

I was just reporting my findings when I tested it - clearly Barry has got a bit upset about it, so I'm sorry to him!

Conclusion: Power-cut handling works. There is one proviso is that it does not resume recording of an active recording but then again which PVR does? Would have been a nice bit of one-upmanship to add though.

Now then: Dolby Digital down-mixing? Anyone been able to get this to work?

Don't forget the ITV Player test - I have just filled in my results of my first tests.

TBH ITV Player seems much the same as when I first tried it weeks ago with the old firmware. What exactly are we supposed to be testing with this? That they have not broken it?

Not on s/pdif, I can't test hdmi out though.

Do you suppose you need to reboot between turning Surround Sound ON/OFF?

It's not running at all well for me [7 mbps] at present - I get lots of 50060 errors. I think the ITV player is the main purpose of the beta so report your findings.
The BBC IPlayer works well and might even be a bit faster.

I got a load of 50050 errors a few days ago before the update...

At the moment ITV Player seems broken on my box. I originally got the home screen, but when I tried to watch a programme I got the 50060 Error (can't find content).
Every time I restart I either get this error or the 50050 error. I tried switching off the box and restarting, but this made no difference.Maybe just too many people trying to use it.

My Pace Twin used to do that. Surprised that it's not normal.

I am reading this thread with some interest. Is auto padding the same as accurate recording, if so, then in my experience, my box as far as I know is accurate recording and only starts recording when the programme actually starts. When in standby mode wakes up about 15 minutes before programme is due to start.

Nice to see they manged to fix the power cut bug without needing to update the boot loader. Perhaps this is why it took so long for the update to happen? I know Bob_Cat posted that the issue required an update to the bootloader and the mechanism that looks after the STB during standby ("micom") and neither of these was a simple fix. So well done for finding an alternative that the many people out there on older bootloaders can take advantage of

Just need to work out when there is sufficient time for me to update mine. Does anyone know if Raydon's modded firmware (dated 14th March) is compatible? Anyone tried?

Edit: I can understand where the confusion arose when it was deemed to be not working as the ReadMe file with the beta firmware stated the bootloader as 7.54 when in fact there is no bootloader included. That coupled with the original understanding that it would definitely need a bootloader update just backed it up.

Not quite.

Accurate recording requires the broadcaster to send a signal to say the programme has started so the pvr responds by starting the recording. If it starts early or late the recording tracks the start and end of the transmission. Because the actual start time is unknown the box wakes up 15 mins before and waits for the signal.

Auto padding takes the scheduled recording start and end from the epg and adds the padding. Eg start 2 mins early and end 2 mins late. Because you have told it to start recording 2 mins or so before the scheduled start time as it lacks a crystal ball it does just that it starts and ends at the scheduled times adjusted by the padding (no need to wake up it knows when it's going to start recording). It does this for all recordings it's not selective. It has one advantage over a manual recording though it ignores the accurate record codes it retains the series link information. As a result after recording one event it finds the next recording in the series and updates the schedule and pads the times ad infinitum.

In a perfect world the broadcasters will get the change of status codes right and every recording on auto will work. (If only ), and also get the codes right that link seperate episodes of the series (crid's)

BBC generally get it right, ITV normally does but they have a nasty habit of changing the event id's so the box awaits an event that never happens. The other channels are variable..

I've never had a problem on the CBS channels, possibly surprisingly. Apart from when they changed transponder, but their whole EPG was messed up now - they had bigger things to worry about than accurate record

Sorry as well Barry (didn't mean to upset anyone). I was more concerned about trying to get the message to Bob_Cat as soon as possible that it was suspected that we required the bootloader update as well as the Beta firmware(as we were told it could not be fixed without a boot loader update).

I always use padding on Freesat and AR on Freeview as I set some things to record on both (a belt and braces approach incase something goes wrong with the AR signalling or a channel is running seriously late). I find that BBC, ITV and Channel 4 (and their respective families of channels) AR siganlling to be pretty good. Channel 5 on the other hand - I'm not even certain they use AR signalling. Anyone know for certain?

The only thing I record with on channel 5 is the daily Home And Away and Neighbours for the better half (lunchtime editions). Both on Series and Accurate Record no problems for weeks.

I left my living room one unplugged from the mains for 90 minutes.

Later automatic recordings were made okay without me touching the box

Re the third party ftp "tweak", can you just put this back on or does it have to be packaged again to include the 1.15 Humax software?

The biggest gripe for me is this live pause issue which has not yet been addressed in this release. I don't think I will be lining the Humax pocket again either! As already said little niggly things which spoil this box need to be fixed NOW. I think 12 months just to sort out the power cut issue is pathetic on Humax's part
