Has anyone any positive evidence that the early-morning new channel scan is working? Have there been any changes over the past few days I could look at?
What has happened to the promised Foxsat HDR upgrade?

Is every one happy that the picture doesn't look physically different with the beta version ie. they have twigged the rendering so it looks a bit more colourful. I did the upgrade to the beta on an 87 year old's box, the TV I don't see too often, but it did look a bit more colourful.
Any comments about the loading of the BBC Iplayer and the speed of use ?.

I have not noticed any difference.
I would suspect that they are looking at the difference between the SCART and the HDMI feed. There is no mention of tweaking the rendering in the change log.

The BBC Iplayer seemed to work faster but that could have been due to the server being less busy perhaps Sunday afternoon, although the change log suggests improvements in that part of the system in the screen handling. Interested in whether it was my perception on both being real or imaginable.

The hdr has never had any form of component output (unless you count SD RGB as component). The hd has a component output (not from a scart socket though) it's turned off during HD freesat transmissions by the broadcasters so apart from use in non-freesat mode it's not much use.
Disappointing to see not one of my gripes has been addressed with this beta. Human used to be really good at issuing bug fixes and even new features.
I will however do what I can and give the beta a try. Hopefully they are working on the common bugs but just keeping it quiet for now.

Highly unlikely.
A lot of those bugs would have been trivial to correct.
Basically, they are just s***e at being responsive to their customers.
Which is odd as I remember reading that was one of things that their fanbois on another site said made them a standout manufacturer (before the Foxsat went on sale).
However, to put things in perspective it's still a fine piece of kit.
Just annoying that the won't go the extra two feet to round it off.
As a relatively late comer to the wacky world of HDR, what puzzles me is the "more to this than meets the eye, laddie" undercurrent to this forum. People are very helpful, people recognise the bugs, suggest workrounds and so on. They've waited a year (?) for a decent software update, discussed what will be in that update, and now discovered that this beta addresses way less than half of most people's expectations. Possibly. When we all get to the bottom of it.
There's an air of 'hurl some random stuff over the wall at the peasants' about Humax's approach, they 'engage' with their customers (or rather don't engage) in a pre-ineternet, pre-twitter, almost pre-pigeonpost manner. And yet the discussion, the expectations, all continue here as if there's concrete evidence that Humax overall (as opposed to one individual staffer) give a flying howsyourfather, and that the box we all know the HDR could be, with a relatively modest amount of effort, is just around the corner.

Agree with you entirely.....It amazes me how some people on here have just one purpose,so it seems,in life to put down Humax.I have the hdr for apprx 2 years and have never had a failed recording.Course there are extra features we would all like but that goes for all "gadgets",and of course there are niggly bugs for some,but for me it does what it says on the tin.The Humax support on here is fantastic and tbh I wonder why they bother sometimes with a lot of the flack they get.I think if they GAVE them to some people they would still find something to moan about.........

Sounds like a good idea, ideally it needs to be something like a wiki that could take contributions from anyone that wants to lot's of users on here and in other places that know lots of the stuff not in the manual or not very well explained. There's a lot of potential info though.
As to the missing stuff there is really only 1 missing feature that was ever postulated by Humax that's the recording from the buffer option. Basically the upgrade was suppposed to sort out the cessation of recording activity following a power cut while the unit was in sby (which it has), the other changes weren't mentioned though the downmixing of AC3 streams to lpcm will be welcomed by owners of seperate audio systems without Dolby Digital decoding.

I don't think you quite got the gist of what you quoted. I read it as agreement that Humax's approach has been well less than ideal.

I think that even those of us who are outspoken about Humax's attitude to the niggly bugs agree that it is an excellent product. In a way that makes it all the more annoying that they wilfully refuse to tackle the niggles which, for the most part, would take very little effort to correct.

I have to disagree with you there. I think it's rubbish. All but non-existent and the one person who did post seemed to spend more of his time telling us that he couldn't give us any useful information (not that that was his fault) than giving us the information we wanted.

When they came out they were around £250 which is a substantial amount. There's a lot of software around for a fraction of that price and for which the manufacturers have a rolling programme of bug fixes.

Probably have to wait till CH4 HD launches. One downside is that there is no way to tell if minor changes have taken place short of checking every transponder manually. Some sort of last update flag in the secret menus would be nice

I have been thinking why they need a housekeeping channel scan - I suppose there is a very good chance of missing transponder changes during holidays for example. I wonder if any other freesat+ boxes do one.

I'm sure you're right about Humax not promising more in the upgrade; I was referring to things that I and others might regard as fault fixes. E.g. providing a pause function but then chopping the end of that prog. off, the way the delete option in file manager greys out after one file is deleted, the red button / iPlayer interface, etc.
Missing from the manual - logical explanations that answer the question "How do I?" And lots of detail that may well be there somewhere. . . . if you're a hardcore manual fan.

Pressing yellow in file manager enters edit mode. This allows multiple file selections for copying/deleting.
Loss of your programme timeshift buffer as the programme finishes is down to the implementation of the way the buffer works. It starts from scratch at the start of each new programme event. This relates to the missing buffer record capability. On any pvr with only two tuners if the tuner being used to generate the recording buffer is required for a scheduled recording then either the new recording has to be delayed or you lose the end of the what you were watching in timeshift playback.
Thanks Graham. Re the file deleting: that's clearly a quicker way, it's just pretty naff that if you delete a file and the cursor then lands on another one you want to delete, the red button is n/f. Thanks to you and others I've learned a lot of these workrounds, but it's such a shame that the box is so clunky in this way.
The timeshift buffer also - I understand why, but all a user perceives is a fault - it's not an opinion, he's timeshifting something and loses the end. I'd rather have the function as is than not at all, granted, but I've never worked on a project where something as fundamental as this is ignored once identified. I'd expect the boss to ask what planet we were on!

Exactly, the whole point of timeshifting is to watch the program after its finished, the only time you will luck out and it will work is when the ads allow you to catch up and you happen to finish at the same time.
Its unreal that this has been allow to continue for so long, especially as it doesnt even work with both tuners free and no recordings scheduled.

There seems to be a bit of confusion about the timeshift buffer bug. You actually have to do a specific sequence of things to hit it, I've only ever run into it once when I haven't been doing things to test it out.
There is no problem in pausing a 'live' channel and then leaving it paused for a whole two hours before resuming watching. You won't miss the end of any program UNLESS you have a scheduled recording starting during those two hours that needs to make use of the tuner OR you already have a recording of the channel you paused in progress. In the 2nd case the buffer will 'jump' to the end of the program when the recording stops. But hey, in this scenario, you have the recording in your media library so what's the problem?

Thanks for posting this. I've just recently bought a Foxsat HDR (upgrading from a Pace Twin which will apparently cease to record after DSO) and having read various references to a bug in the Live Pause implementation I was going to run some tests to figure out exactly what problems would arise, but I think your description has covered everything.

No problem? How about it jumping forward revealing the result of a football game I was watching, its a bug, it needs to be fixed.
Even if the recording is scheduled, the box should keep the recording and carry on playing whats left in the buffer as it has to be recorded to the HD anyway.
That coupled with the subtitle bug if you skip back from live TV makes pause unusable. I have to record everything I watch just to make sure I can watch it from start to finish.
