Any explanation of how the problem download got onto the beta site?

Was there an associated disclaimer or warning on the beta site?

The aim of this area is to provide a single source for the latest software for consumers of our products and as such the software may not yet be fit for long-term use. Whilst every effort has been made to deliver software which is useful to consumers, the software provided here may not yet have fully completed the Humax Quality Control process. Humax will however aim not to release any software here that has not been functionally tested internally first and as such should present a limited risk to owners of products. We would recommend however that you consider your level of comfort with the process of upgrading the product and if you do not fully understand the implications of your actions you should not proceed.

I'm back as I was..taken enough risks it seems the beta has been removed so I would say it's well faulty!

You would have thought there engineers would have picked this problem up before release on the beta site though

Not if the fault was with the process that put the wrong thing on the beta site though. Which seems possible given the strange version number it was labelled with.

If that is the case we can expect another beta almost immediately.

Whether anyone will try it is another matter.

The version numbers did indicate that there was something odd about the download. It would be interesting to know whether it got there by genuine error or employee mischief, though.

I'm wondering why you weren't allowed to distribute the fix - I wonder if it contains a decrypted version of the software or something... I kind of wish I'd tried it now so I can see what the fix was like!

Given the version on the site was lower than the current installed version I wonder why anyone would take the risk. But that is just me, see enough early release, alpha and beta version testing to see what can go wrong. Hours can be spent fixing stuff aftwerwards.

My guess is also that it was definitely an error. Was it posted late Friday afternoon? Friday afternoon syndrome?

Glad Humax were so prompt to sort it out and we have our boxes back as they were... almost, 3 of my hd recordings ended up encrypted! A small price to pay

At least Humax were commendably speedy in arranging a fix.

Dan, I have downloaded stacks of beta software over the years and this was the first one way trip. I usually don't download the first beta though. Normally, in the event of an error or you don't like the features, you can find some way of reinstalling the old version. Humax had that facility, in that the old firmware was available to roll back changes,

I knew the risk, I assumed it was a very limited risk, after all we seem to be close to the roll out date of the next firmware release!

It is also a good idea to not install a beta on your one and only device. If I had more than one Foxsat HDR I may have tried it on one.

That sums it up. She lost last weeks latest midsomer murders, sadly! Although, perhaps that could be seen as a positive...
