Some interesting recipes there.

My favourite of the cheapo bangers is Walls; for posh ones from the farmers' market I go for pork & leek.

Yay to the sausage.

Seriously, sausages, even in Supermarkets, are so much better now than the rubbish that was served up 30 or 40 years ago.

In those days you were lucky to come across anything close to the (even mid range) ones available today, and if you did your parents probably treated it with grave suspicion.

Every week is National Sausage Week for me! Sainsbury's Taste the Difference chipolatas, bake in oven at low heat for 30 mins to cook through, then at high heat for 10 mins to brown, slather with finely sliced caramelised fried onions and you have the food of the gods.

They were never a particular favourite of mine although I did like my sister in law's sausage rolls whose butcher did the sausage meat for her. I still cook them for my husband but I haven't touched one since seeing how they were made on that Gillian McKeith program.

My favourites are Sainsburys Taste the Difference Pork & Caramelised Red Onion - they're lovely.

Tommy, if you haven't already, get to Broadbent's and try some of their chilli and garlic sausages.

They are truly wonderful and I'm not a massive fan of sausages.

I find that sausages from a farmers market piss all over supermarket ones, even the upmarket ones.

Make that 10-15 years. They were still pretty shoddy until the recent trend. Saying that you can still get those 2p sausages can't you? Isn't it something like 16p per pack

I've been in Britain six months and haven't liked any sausages I've tasted yet, from top quality butcher sausages, to supermarket to restaurant. I miss Irish sausages!

My brother who lives in England would agree with you so I send him a frozen meat package every 2 weeks, he cannot get beef sausages or vegetable roll in his area at all, I also send him soda farls and tattie bread.

Irish sausages are just better. I make my own soda bread though. It's easily done and the ingredients required readily available.

Asda's turkey sausages with chilli are lovely and have a high meat content. Good alternative to pork.

Where is this Broadbent's?
Coseley in the West Midlands.

I know Tommy works nearby - the guy who owns the shop is married to my eldest son's Godmother.

They have another shop in Wordsley too, but obviously that's no good to you if you don't live around here!

Asda are stocking Debbie and Andrew's sausages at the moment - 2 packs for £4. They are very good quality and you don't get a lot of fat come out of them. In fact I'm using them for dinner tonight - slow-cooked sausages in cider served with mashed potatoes and butternut squash, cauliflower and broccoli. Yum.

Ta for the info.

Massive sausage fan and have had D&A loads of times. High quality pork content.

Richmonds are awful for fat.

My 4 year old would have that every night if I'd let him....

I find the better quality supermarket ones ok, but try to pick up local made ones whenever they have a farmers market.

Well I've tried all sorts, makes and qualities of sausages over the years, but the ones I like best for flavour and texture, and go back to time after time, are Co-op's own brand plain "pork sausages", not their "Butchers Choice" or Gourmet ranges, just their basic sausages, 24 for £2.29 or thereabouts. In size they're between a chipolata and a normal-size sausage.

Generally I find high-meat content ones much too coarse in texture for my liking. Strange I know but there you are!

Just got some nice looking sausages on special offer from ASDA. They are from a butcher in North Shields apparently.

I'm going to have the pork & apple tonight made into a pattie and fried with onions and put in a oven bottom muffin

My local butcher is doing some aweome chilli sausages at the moment. It's a new recipe he's doing from this chilli supplier and he said other butchers are doing it as well. Their details are at www.capsicana.co.uk/national-sausage-week...

Well worth checking out if you like chilli sausages!
