It stinks on so many levels.

However, there is still plenty of 'real' music about. Don't worry about it and leave the other stuff to the cloth ears.

Absolutely not! I manage a recording artist and we do not use it.
I am sure it is the same for many, and it is used more for fashionable effect, i believe.

I bet i could predict 10 albums you own and all of them will be top 40 chart entrys. Your into all that pop music like Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga.

This is nothing new.

It's just more obvious now because dance/pop is the 'in' sound, which lends itself to all sorts of vocal manipulation for effect and for many acts; a requirement. It's a pretty forgiving genre if you have good production.

At least with pop artists like Gaga, she's proven that she doesn't need to use it...even if they do.

Yes, so what if you could predict what albums Red+Blooded would buy? They still chose to buy it out of their own free will.

If someone likes Mozart and Beethoven, you could also probably predict that they like Handel, Bach and Chopin. Are you saying that just because you can "predict" what someone likes, that their music collection is less than valid than someone who likes unpredictable things?

If all the music you like was in the Top 40, would that mean you would stop liking it because the majority of the country also agreed with you in that week of sales?

Of course some music is better than others...

Some music is made just for entertainment and people who don't care about 'talent', others like music that means something and enjoy supporting talent. You do have a middle ground too mind.

The latter comes second in terms of chart ,music (especially in the UK).

For the record, i am happy that some of the artists i like are not in the charts!

damn why do people have to be so down?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!

i mean i have nothing against autotune apart from OVER reliance on it or something, used great for effect etc. Britney and MIA have made good use of it for uptempo club songs for effect, as have RObyn and Kelis too.

but people like JLS who abuse it make me cringe a while i must say!

but people buy what they want to at the end of the day! no need to be so bullying! it's so distasteful!

I dont think I have the same issue with Autotune as a lot of the posters in this thread seem to have.

It is, after all, only a production tool. It has been over used recenlty certainly but i don't anything massively against it. For me, I have no more of an issue with auto tune than I do with synths or computer programmes like pro tools. If used well, fine. If used badly, then its bad.

For me, its just a really easy stick to beat certain acts with. It isn't actually auto tune thats the issue, its the fact that its being used in sh*t songs.

Just went to download Robin Thicke / T-Pain - PYT MJ cover....Robin's verse is fantastic but the first verse is T-Pain and is entirely autotune. It's sounds f...ing horrendous and ruins a good cover....I hope a Robin only version leaks

It probably would to be honest I'm sick and tired of music snobs looking down on other's taste simplu because it's popular. I for one am disappointed if an artist I like doesn't do well in the charts, because it means that less people are going to enjoy, appreciate and discuss the music I like...

My problem is that autotune just takes all the personality out of the vocal. The backing music / group instruments / harmonised vocals etc. doesn't necessary have to do this so much.Any track that has a lead vocalist surely must be to connect on a personal level with the listener.Autotune surely reduces this 'speak to me' effect. It makes tracks sound closer to muzak, especially with electronically based backing tracks. Not what I want to listen to at all.

Sounds like a raw nerve has been touched Sounds like the music you are into is totally dominated by autotune & subconsciously are not happy about it.

Just heard Shayne Ward's new single, absolutely autotuned to death. He sounds like a robot. Atrocious, don't know how anyone with ears can enjoy that.

Forums like this really bug me.

If i like a song, i'll buy it. Regardless of auto-tune. I like some of Kesha's stuff, and thats heavily autotuned. I also like some of Cheryls material.

why preach on here about it? Everyone has their own opinion, end of really.

No no, you misunderstand the POINT of forums.

People on here give THEIR opinions as to why they think autotune is crap.

You then come on and post and say that everyone is entitled to their opinions, which in your book seems to mean "Don't question the music I like". Er, sorry, but that's not freedom of opinion you're espousing, it's fascism!

Very true.

But the OP generalises everyone, pretty much. There's exceptions, and it's a very selfish view. Who cares about autotune? I'll most likely get a lecture about 'real music' now, but if I like it, i'll buy it.
