This and what Servalan eloquently said- I am v annoyed that the Beeb and Ann have decided that she is the programme this year

What a shame that most people will not ever see the news about the anti- abortion talk.

Can't see that she will be going anytime soon unfortunately.

I think we saw a tiny glimpse of the real Ann tonight on ITT .... how condescending was she to Claudia when she asked for the story of their Paso ? Also correcting her re Camilla Parker Bowles.

One wrong comment from one of the judges and your cover will be blown Annie my dear.

Hopefully she will let more of her " personality " emerge and some of the blinkered ones will see the light.

To reinforce my point...

*I think Scott Maslen and Kara Tointon are crap actors.
*I think Pamela Stephenson's Guardian sex advice column is facile drivel.
*I have never watched Countryfile.
*I don't actively cheer for Wales during the Six Nations.
*I haven't enjoyed anything that Felicity Kendal has done since The Good Life.

Do any of these thoughts come into my head when I'm rating their ability to dance, or when I'm weighing up whether they 'should' be on the programme?

No. No, no no.

SCD is not bookending Ann's dances with a speech denouncing homosexuality. It is not giving time in Ann's VTs to Catholic bishops cheering her on in the name of the Man Upstairs. It is not promoting her views in any way siply by having her on the programme.

So could all those people who think this forum is the place to denounce a contestant simply for political opinions she has been known to hold, get over themselves and judge the woman on her dancing - which surely is rubbish enough for you to hold her in very poor esteem anyway?”

Its always a delight to see Felicity Kendal on our TV screens.

I disagree, actually. I loved her in "The Good Life" and I think I'd rather have been left with the memories. I've come to realise that I liked Barbara much more than I've warmed to Felicity in real life.

Ann was a good Prisons minister, but on the other hand she was very right wing and so, as a politician, I didn't like her. All of this is irrelevant because she is taking part in a dancing competition, and she has been the worst dancer from the beginning. I don't find her likeable, in fact I am beginning to feel sorry for Craig! who is in her sights and she is out to get him. Rather like a rotweiler playing with a poodle! And yes Craig is the poodle.

Soap is something one uses for ablutions and there is only one cult show on TV (SCD) so I'm clearly out of touch.

The Beeb's in a tricky position re Ann's political views, as if they gave them airtime, they'd have to give equal airtime to a Labour and Lib Dem (political) heavyweight as well. Three politician in one series would be a tad too much.

They're pretty much constrained to billing her as just the ex- MP. (Do they even refer to her as a Tory? Not sure.) Anyway, lots of SCD contestants get grossly misrepresented to the viewers. "Screen Siren Patsy Kensit", for example. Not to mention "Model..." which usually means someone who poses in their undies. I'm sure Rachel Stevens was billed as a popstar at least once.

There's also the "be careful what you wish for syndrome". If Ann's views were given prominence, she might get even more votes. Not everyone is as sophisticated and right-minded as Digital Spy forumites, and the BNP frequently does well in elections that don't really matter, so there's a non-trivial proportion of the population who hold some pretty unsavoury views. Heaven forbid, her anti-gay views might even represent the majority in the UK if people were really honest.

Take your point that you don't like Ann and that's fine. Neither do I, as it happens and it's time she got the chop.

Anyway, shouldn't you be chasing Blake?

I'm not anti-gay at all, if that's what floats their boat then fine, it's nothing to do with me, but I'm reminded of Jimmy Nail in AWP when he referred to 'dicky up the chuffter'.
Maybe i'm a prude

I think just totally wrong! What makes you think Ann hasn't been in demand for and speaking at such events continuously, throughout her political life and since she retired from the House? SCD won't make a jot of difference to these activities in her life.

No, but it might get her more of them and even allow for a price rise

Ha. Yes. Fair comment.

I was really pointing out that the poster had things completely the wrong way around.

It's not that Ann is in SCD and the increased populist media profile is getting her platform positions at anti-abortion events/meetings.

It's that Ann's increased populist media profile due to her SCD appearances has led to her platform positions at anti-abortion events/meetings being reported. If the BBC had needed a strike to avoid reporting them, they'd have been off-air once a month since the year dot!
