As an old person from the North who lives in London I still don't understand the wearing shoes in clubs comment. Can someone enlighten me?

That puzzled me too. As an oldie more than where I have geographically lived in my life.

Yeah, me too, was wondering what on earth they wear to clubs down south - clogs, slippers, crocks

Does it mean London clubs allow trainers?
If so then that is beyond reprehensible.

I had a vision of a lot of drunk Londoners with filthy bare feet all bleeding profusely cos they've stood on broken bottles in the queue. I may be a bit out with that one.

God knows, last time I went clubbing it was in Fagins in Wood Green, and that's been gone a long, long time (and wasn't exactly the cutting edge of clubdom then) *mourns long gone youth *

The wear shoes (even piss soaked ones), it must be true because I've seen it on The Inbetweeners!

.........one thing that did strike me is how awful the architecture was in the Trafford Centre (and lots of other malls too). Those vulgar fake statues for example..........it's a shopping centre, not a coliseum. Why do they make everything look so chavvy and nouveau riche? Hideous

To shop in the Trafford Centre is just as expensive.
Two miles of concourse upper deck and lower. Cinema's, fabulous eateries for specialising in food over the world, it boasts any regular large high street stores and a branch of Selfridges.
We go to the Trafford Centre for a day out. Don't buy much from the expensive stores but enjoy the restaurants/cafeterias, free entertainment and cinema.
Christmas lighting is a must see and every bit as good as the Blackpool Illuminations (which are fabulous this year by the way.)
The promo pitch site that Alex suggested was not in a bad position. But in relation to where their shop was located it was maybe too far away.
I do think that the party dress choice was a good idea but don't forget that the Trafford Centre is quite upmarket too.
Recycled clothes were never giong to be a hit there.”

I wouldn't say it has 2 miles of concourse, nor that it's Christmas lighting is better than Blackpools', nor that it's upmarket. Its food hall is crammed with well known franchises, and the only free entertainment is the self promoting video screen. On top of all that, the number of empty stores is shocking due to the excessive rents. The only thing worth watching is the internal fountain, and that's only because the kids like it.

Since Liverpool 1 was built (Europes' largest ever open retail development), the serious designer labels have ditched the Trafford Centre completely!

Because they are the playgrounds of the chaveau riches.

Although strangely, despite all the people I know fitting exactly into one or more of the social tribes, none of them are applicable to me ....

bump!

Melody- “She hasn’t chosen the right products for Paris- this isn’t like, Manchester”

Leon- “Maybe we should give them a call back, and tell them it’s not a car-boot sale”

Melody- “Or, or, up North or something”

Sail on, Melody, sail on, with your incredibly strange voice and love of tacky teapots

I'm from Manchester so it's hit after hit over here. I live in London and I get ribbed constantly for my accent but, other than that, I see no difference between me and my Southern pals. They all seem surprised that I went to a Grammar school, got better A Level results and am capable of reading. Where does this ignorance come from?!

If I got a fiver for every time someone asked me how the mines were I'd probably have £40. Which I desperately need.

I think from the more intelligent, the stereotyping is not serious. They are actually taking the mickey out of the stereotyped Southerner who has a completely anachronistic idea of the North or one gleaned entirely from Coronation Street in the 60's.

Then there are those who really believe this is a true representation of the North.

I'll sometimes say to my Northern friends in response to some statement about their homeland: "aye, 'ts' grim oop North". They are fully aware that that when I do that it's taking the rise out of stereotypes and perceptions of stereotypes. The standard response is something along the lines of "aye, 'tis that".

Or anywhere north of Bucks or west of Berks tbh. Although I admit the north does seem to be a particular target on this show.

Cue comment from a worried work colleague when I announced we were moving back to Wales "Oh dear, won't you miss having a front garden terribly?" I would like to say I spotted the irony but all I got was genuine concern.

Personally I can't wait for Melody to get the push, the trailer for tonight sees her utter that often heard multiple use Southern phrase:

"XXX, it's the new YYY!"

I only ever hear Southerners utter that crap statement, therefore I say this:

"North, it's the new South!" Lol
