I'm iffy on Katie's choice - I love that song, but the original is very emotive because of what the song is about and how it was affecting the band members at the time - not sure therefore that Katie has the emotional range when singing to put that across. I like the song though.

Wagner doing Elvis? Nah, car crash.

Mary's is quite good.

Cher back in her comfort zone, fair enough.

One Direction - bad choice I think, Kris Allen was crap at that song, Lambert even wasnt much better because its a crap track, And not enough people will know it.

TreyC will do a "by the numbers" performance of hers no doubt, but I shouldnt think I'll like it much unless she, same as Katie in a way, can get some passion into it.

I'm pretty sure that One Direction do not ge votes based on their song choice. They could be mute and they'd still pick up votes from teenage girls. I'm not saying that ALL teenage girls vote based on looks, but a lot of them do.

Despite not seeing how Don't Speak is an "American Anthem", I actually think it's a really good song choice for Katie, it will suit her voice. Still don't like her though.

News just in: TreyC (pronounced Treik?) to murder another rock song?

Why oh why give her rock songs, her voice blatantly doesn't suit them.

Don't speak is a GREAT song (though not especially relevant to the theme). I don't know if Katie will pull it off - I don't have very firm opinions about her one way or the other - I liked her Jungle Book performance! - but if she does, it could be a really good performance.

Empire State of Mind is also a great song choice for Cher - and it does stick to the theme.

I wonder how much input the contestants had on their song choices this week. News reports suggest alot - and I can see why Katie and Cher may well have chosen those song, though I can't see 1D choosing this unknown track.

There has been a couple of dance/club versions of I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing....

I presume Treyc will do the dance version... I hope so.

Trouble with Katie is people are now going to say more than ever that she's doing a Gwen Stefani "Stars in their Eyes" performance. There's the danger she'll badly overact (like in her sing-off) and not have the range to match the original. Then again, it didn't stop Cher on saturday.

She's been a wannabe gaga/stefani clone from the outset...then we had the"fun" retro Katie. So which Katie is this now...? "just a girl" according to her diary - so if she survives, is it Britney next week? She's just like a child going to a dressing up party.

.....don't like American music much anyway - way too sickly but this lot is total rubbish and a whole song of rap ! Won't get any votes from older people, tha's for sure. Appreciate that it's aimed at young people but us old-uns buy CDs still.

Can't be ar*ed to watch this week !

American Anthems and no 'Born to Run' or 'Born in the USA'?

Bruce Springsteen is the modern embodiment of American Anthems.

Didn't Storm do Born to Run?

Excellent song choices for Mary and Katie. If Katie gets it right she may not be in the bottom two this week.

Empire State of Mind for Cher - oh dear...

Can't agree.

I've listened to the final performances back several times and still can't hear what it was that Randy was on about.

Neither do I agree that it's a bad track. Simon simply used it as a means to stress the point that he wanted to make after the final performances. For someone who seemed to think so little of the song at the time, this is the second time it will have been given to a boyband on one of his shows here and this time he can't deny that it was his choice as he tried to deny with Connected on BGT.

BTR has already been performed this series by Storm Lee.

Any of the contestants doing Born in the USA would come across as genuine and authentic as Cher doing Empire State of Mind. Still, I don't think genuineness and authenticity are things you can associate with a middle-class market town white girl rapper.

According to an interview with her on the Official site she is going to 'smash it' this week and has sung the song loads of times before.
