Why are 02 more expensive?

Hi. I am looking to upgrade my current mobile. I am currently with o2 and happy to say with them, but looking around they just don't seem to offer the same sort of deals that the other networks do. So I may well be moving to another network.

Unless you're willing to spend £40-£50 per month they're just not interested in giving you a decent upgrade deal these days, don't know why. I've changed to a 30 day simplicity tariff for now, that way another network comes out with something better I can just jump ship.

They didn't offer me any kind of deal even though I had been a customer with them for about 4 years. I said it's cheaper being a new customer at Vodafone than upgrading with you. They said 'go to vodafone then'. So i did

I'm also with O2 and have been for at least 5 years yet i get the same as someone who has only just joined the network. I will look to leave O2 once my contract is up other networks look to offer better deals.

I've been with O2 for 8 years, and they still don't care. Last year I had a nightmare upgrading to the iPhone as they hadn't gotten around to upgrading my account to their new billing system, so instead of just walking into the store and leaving with a phone, I had to spend 2 months talking to everyone in the company to get it fixed. Definitely looking to leave if something better turns up on another network.

I've seen occassional posts from O2 staff on here, would be good if they could comment on why O2 are no longer interested in retaining their loyal customers.

Because all they care about is money not loyalty. You'd think they'd wanna keep as many customers as possible regardless of tariff.

I'm a fairly low user/low spender and the only network I have found that has wanted to keep me regardless of my spend was Three.

Pity they are so awful...!

I too left o2 earlier this year after being with then for the last 8 years. In previous years it has come to the renewal date, phoned up and been given a discounted deal to stay and for being a loyal customer etc, but not this year. Got told the best they could do on a htc desire was a £40 month contract as I needed a smart phone contract for 24 months. Used to pay 15 a month with a 7.50 a month web bolt on so not sure what extra the smart phone contract would have given me. Anyway, went with orange in the end, free phone, £25 a month and an 18 month contract. Happy days.
Sad thing is tho, I was more than happy with o2 all those years and would still be with them if they'd have been more competitive or even a little bit closer.

I've been with 02 for 10 years now since back when it was BT Genie and I'm happy enough with them. I can understand everyone'e point about them not offering good incentives to stay though. I guess for me, it's too much of a fuss switching contracts and numbers etc but I do find that replacing the monthly (?) awards of extra texts or minutes for that 02 Priority thing was stupid.

I'm another one that recently left O2 after many happy years with them.
Where I live, O2 give the best reception, but I still left and signed up with Orange.

There was no way they would budge on the prices as they had previously done.

Thats the most annoying part, none of us who have left/are leaving really want to but O2 are pricing us out.

Come on O2 let's have a response from you.

If you change network through a shop then they'll port your number for you there and then, so that's shouldn't be a consideration. Personally, I don't care about incentives or loyalty bonuses, I just want to be treated the same as a new customer - which I really wasn't when I upgraded to the iPhone. At least, if that's how they treat their new customers, I'm amazed they have any at all!

A few years ago I was with O2 phoned them up as my contact was up for renewal and they wouldn't even offer me the same deal they were offering new customers! so I got my PAC code and opened a new account with them got my old number transferred to the new account. It was crazy.

Now got a company phone on O2 business and the company get a very good deal with them, next to nothing in line rental and new phones every 12 months, so guess O2 just want business users.
