Ringtones from iPhone music collection
Is there a way to use one of my iPhone songs as a ring tone or text alert?
I have a 3G iPhone and cannot find an answer to above question so that can do it. |

There's a guide here:

Wow. A £400+ phone that can't even use custom ringtones with needless faffing about! It boggles me how Apple got to the position they're in.

If you're using OS4 you can use the free/£0.59 app Ringtone Designer, otherwise if you google 'iringer' you'll find a free little program that makes the process pretty straightforward. No way to change incoming message tone from the standards though, unless you jailbreak.

iRinger is free and simple to make ringtones as it converts and puts the ringer into iTunes ready for the next sync. But you can't change the text tone unless you have jailbroke the phone.

Lovely phone to use, smooth and fast but such simple things as changing your ring/ message tone or using bluetooth the way it was designed just ruin what could be the best phone ever. |

There are ways of doing it for ringtones. I am glad they don't let people set music as text alerts. People who have these ridiculous text alerts need to shot.

This; it is crazy. I have just been given an iPhone has my new work phone and it is so locked down to what apple want it is crazy.
Lovely phone to use, smooth and fast but such simple things as changing your ring/ message tone or using bluetooth the way it was designed just ruin what could be the best phone ever. The fact is, you can make your own ringtones for free using the above suggested methods. Yes it's a bit of a faff from what you may have been able to do on your old phone (the manufacturers of which would not have the same music industry pressures put upon them that Apple probably has imposed) but it can be done and it can be done for free. Or you can pay for a ringtone from the iTunes store if you can't be bothered to spend 5 minutes doing it yourself. The biggest issue I have is that you can't do the same for the message tone. Which result in pretty much everyone having the same tri tone notification and a room full of people all reaching for their phone when they here the notification tone. Sure, you can do it if you jailbreak, but most of us don't want to do that and are happy to run the phone with the official iOS. |
