Getting a 3G sim for a 2G Contract
I did a search but didn’t find anything before posting so sorry if this has been asked many times before.
I know that it is not possible for a 2G (Vodafone) phone to be used in a 3G (3) phone. Is it possible however to ask Vodafone for a 3 G sim but keep my current contract with them? I don’t really want all the video messaging and stuff, I use me phone to text and talk so a 3G contact would be a waste of money. My brother has a 3G phone and is ending his contact with them but its a nice phone and would like to use it if possible. Tried phoning Vodafone buy got fed up of being put on hold, any advice would be great Cheers! |

Yes it is possible. I have asked Orange to supply one as I have a spare Motorola 3G handset but they tell me they will not be issuing USIM's to existing subscribers until after the commercial launch of the handsets in the Autumn. The same will also apply to Vodafone I assume.
You can of course use all of the 2/2.5G services with your 3G handset by inserting a standard SIM and modifying the settings for GPRS/WAP/MMS & SMS. Once the consumer services become available just ask and i'm sure Vodafone will be happy to supply a USIM at a reasonable cost. |
