Why are Kara and Artem wearing poppies on their salsa costumes? Overkill as far as I'm concerned. They're costumes, they're not the place for poppies. What does everyone else think?

I agree. I'm an extremely willing poppy-wearer but they look silly on costumes and when semi-incorporated into a dress, faintly tacky. imho.

for me there's a place for a poppy anywhere ........

James and Pamela are wearing them too. For me this takes away from the characters they are trying to portray and removes an element of the escapism one should gain from watching entertainment like this. But most of all I think the BBC is just trying too hard. Many of us wear poppies in our "every day" lives and it isn't disrespectful to those who died for their country in the world wars to keep dance costumes poppy-free. xx

Sorry I agree with John Snow, wear a poppy on Remembrance Sunday. Having them everywhere dilutes the message.

It made me annoyed, not everyone should be made to wear a poppy. The Beeb are so stuffy and old fashioned sometimes.

Also Remembrance Day is Thursday so will they be wearing them next week as well? That would be the nearest Saturday to RD, not today.

IMO there is nothing old fashioned for stuffy about wearing a poppy.

Just edited, well, removed, my post, as I think it was inappropriate. Suffice it to say that the poppy thing depresses me.

Poppy fascism by the BBC raises it's ugly head again and is a step too far on a programme such as Strictly.

Whoever has issued the directive that everybody seen on screen should be wearing a poppy should be reminded that those that we are remembering lost their lives fighting for democracy and the right to freedom of thought.

The wearing of a poppy shows you have made a donation to the Royal British Legion.

The act of remembering goes deeper than that IMO

Where does it say they were made to?

Why shouldn't they wear them if they want to? It's entirely up to them whether they commemorate or not. Some of the pros and celebs have put a poppy symbol on their twitter icons, so it's clearly remembrance of their own accord, which should be commended, not derided, in my opinion.

I bet if they didn't want to they'd have been coerced. I remember Reginald G Hunter saying he'd been made to wear one on Have I Got News For You - he didn't ask for it, they just pinned it on him. Not everyone supports the same things as you, you know. The poppies piss me off, quite frankly.

Didn't the BBC say that the dancers would not wear poppies last year and there was a outcry by the press so they backed down. Seems they can't win either way.

The BBC probably can't face another rant from the Daily Mail.

That's why I said they should be commended in my opinion....

My point was that clearly for many of them it is something they want to do, so they should be allowed to wear them on their costumes. Banning them entirely would be just as restrictive of freedom of choice as coercion, so that's why i don't have a problem with them being on costumes.

I should think so as all the events happen next weekend.

I think the bbc have gone overkill having their staff wearing them since mid October i don't ever remember that happening before but as far as Strictly goes I don't see anything wrong with it.

Irritated the hell out of me. Yes, of course it's a good cause, but the OTT wearing on dance costumes was way over the top. And I agree, if you are not English you should not be forced to wear them.

It is a personal choice, not a legal requirement. Stop degrading the whole purpose Beeb!

If someone did that to me I'd take it off. I am not English and I will not be told what to do.

I love that they all wore poppies. Even Michelle wore one which pleased me very much. I hope they all made donations too.
