iphone 4 white availability - this year?
bradisace

Hi I just wanted to know - will the iphone 4 be available in white this year at all or is it still unknown? I have been googling this query however most information just relates to statements in July stating it would be available later in the year.

Last I heard Apple had removed all references to the white model from their Website. It's looking unlikely that it will ever materialise IMHO. At least not this year.

Wow thanks for the speedy reply.

I noticed it has been removed from the Apple website however I have noticed that still Three are advertising it as coming soon on their website.

T-Mobile and Orange both have dates of November/start of December time i have been told.

Orange, Vodafone, 3 all have the White model as coming soon/out of stock. So it hasnt been completely removed

Fry is a special case

I wouldn't hold my breath on the white iPhone 4 (being available to us mere mortals at least!)

Gutted if this is correct.

Not much point now, we're almost half way to the next iphone, will just wait for that.

My guess is that it does not exhibit the problems of the non white model.

Imagine the impact if one worked in all situations and the other did not.

Why are people still waiting for something that clearly wont be out, at least not in this generation of iPhone4?! Its hardly all that difficult for them to create a white version instead of black...so theyre clearly delaying it for a reason. I imagine Stephens model was either provided directly by Apple or he sent it off for a mod as seen on a number of tech sites. Personally I think it looks incredibly cheap but each to their own!

Do you have any manufacturing expertise?

Could be a new exciting feature of iPhone 5, it's white.

No but Apple have been producing white computers with glass fronts for years - I fail to see how "not being able to match the colour" is a problem for phones and not computers...

My guess is that they don't want to release it in the media shitstorm that surrounded the much hyped antenna issue - they are either
- re-manufacturing it with a different antenna design
- or indeed, as rumours state, they may release the white version as a Verizon exclusive in the US. (and launch a GSM version in other countries at the same time).

Why does it even matter? It is just a colour. Get a white case or paint it.

What does that matter? Sorry but they manage to manufacture the black version with no problems what so ever so I somehow think that changing the colour isnt going to cause a major headache...unless of course you know otherwise?

Delayed launch drags out the hype until the next edition of the iPhone. Simple.

It's been about 4 and a half months since release. You can't seriously be suggesting it's now a better idea to wait 7.5 months for the new one?

What next, people saying 'it's only 52 weeks until the next iPhone, might as well wait.'

You don't mention how foolish this makes apple look, on top of the antennagate thing. They promised it initially but it wasn't ready for launch, then they gave out due dates that weren't met, then they gave a press conference announcing it's availabilty, only to have to embarassingly delay it a few days afterwards. It's also been widely reported that they had an entire line dedicated to the white version which was sat doing nothing. All this whilst potential buyers were waiting a month for delivery and people wanting the White phone are keepi their money in their pocket.

It's obvious there were issues. Everything from light leakage to colour consistency to yellowing have been mentioned, all of which are more of an issue on a portable device that's easily comparable to other white handsets. Any slight issues are going to stick out like a sore thumb and people would complain.

If it's an attempt at building up hype it's the most ridiculous and failed one ever.
