Speaking as a HUGE Prince fan I can honestly say that her version is better than Prince's. I think its a classic case of an artist covering a song and making it their 'own'. Its extremely rare but occasionally it happens.

Apparently Prince cried when he heard her version of this because he found it so moving. I think it was one of his very first songs he allowed to be covered.

he didn't allow it to be covered, the laws allow straight cover versions without the writers approval. loads of prince songs were covered before that

and instead of comparing to princes version, why not compare it to the original version by the family? sineads is pretty much a clone of it with added drums. the original version is best, however there are some great live and rehearsal versions by prince i prefer more than the released live version on the hits, some are more faithful to the original album version
