Just going to start making my Christmas cake ... anyone else starting? What recipe do you use? I'm going to use the one from Delia's Christmas book.

Mrs CB says she is going to make hers next week-uses a recipe from an M&S cake book called "Cakes and Cake Decorating" that she purchased c1984- made it every year since.
She is a fan of Delia as well- I always let her watch the reruns of Delias Christmas from the 1990s so she can get inspired!!!!!

I see Waitrose are doing an all in one Delia kit that you just add eggs to - tempted to get this and have a go myself

I've never made my own Christmas cake before, despite baking lots of cakes so have added one of those mixes to my Ocado shop. I'll will be making it on Sunday as it's Stir-up Sunday, the traditional day for making Christmas cakes & puddings (last Sunday before Advent)

You LET her watch them? Can she not decide for herself?

Going to do the cake this weekend, the only problem I've thought of it that although I love icing I hate marzipan is there anyway of icing the cake without using marzipan?

I always make Delia's Creole Christmas Cake as I can't be arsed with icing and marzipan. I top it with glazed fruit (dried or crystallised) and nuts, it always looks fab and is fun to do as well.

Has anyone made individual Christmas cakes? I'd like to make some as gifts and have 9cm rings I can use but not sure about cooking times etc.

Mrs CB makes individual christmas cakes using small baked bean and similar cans (about 75cm dia) wrapped round with brown paper to prevent burning for about one hour ten mins @ 150cent. Check after one hour.
