I was at the McLaren HQ a couple of times but it was ten years ago.
Not even sure if the "McLaren Technology Centre" is even the same building I visited. It was very impressive when I was there. It looked more like an Apple shop than an engineering company. Congrat's on the day trip though. I'm sure you'll be very impressed. From what I've seen on the telly it's amazing. Got to see Hamilton too, who drove up in a Mclaren MP4. There was a lot of classic and modern McLaren F1, Indy and Sports cars to look, touch and climb into, a tyre change timed challange to take part in and an amazing arrange of trophies won through the years. They laid on some good demonstrations with talks from the staff on how it all works and one excellent one showing off all the composite technology. I was amazed at how all the parts, even down to sellotape were meticulously labelled in the thousands of draws and cupboards in the many workshops. It was spotless and even the canteen with free drinks and refreshments was gleaming. Only dissapointment was the wind tunnel, although large, it only used scaled down kit versions of the cars. Id recommend a trip there to anyone, so get to Vodafone VIP and try for the next one, they said they would be having one or you can pay as there were a number of corporates there that day also who had paid. |

Saw a thing on the BBC which reminded me that Spa marks 20 yrs since a young German first got into an F1 car. I was at Spa the following year and witnessed his first win. How time flies.

looks like RBR have gone for a skinny rear wing and are quick down the straight
probably to avoid a easy overtake down the straight supposedly the Maccas have a new rear wing optimised for the DRS it will be a lottery of course with the rain 1 Sergio Perez 14:45:16 298.8 2 Sebastian Vettel 14:48:11 298.7 3 Michael Schumacher 14:52:08 298.0 4 Paul di Resta 14:52:13 297.5 5 Nico Rosberg 14:46:20 295.8 6 Kamui Kobayashi 14:50:47 295.8 7 Fernando Alonso 14:37:43 295.0 8 Sebastien Buemi 14:47:34 292.9 9 Jaime Alguersuari 14:50:23 292.5 10 Mark Webber 14:52:02 292.4 11 Felipe Massa 14:49:48 291.5 12 Jenson Button 14:51:05 288.8 13 Nico Hulkenberg 14:49:15 288.3 14 Rubens Barrichello 14:47:34 287.5 15 Lewis Hamilton 14:42:09 287.3 |

I see Bruno Senna has bought his way into a seat in the Renault.
I wonder how much respect his uncle Ayrton would have had for somebody who could only get a drive that way? |

As Mark Webber commented in his interview with Aggers during the Oval Test match, and it was a really great interview too, there was 'a lot of smoke and mirrors within F1'. It's entertainment for us but not exactly as it seems. Well with Bernie at the helm we could expect that!

What's the inside story on that then?
![]() Bruno has never shown the flair of his uncle, and has been a bit of a damp squib. I know there's a good few pay-drivers in F1 but it's particularly ironic to see somebody with that surname being one because I'm sure Aryton would have been extremely scathing about such a driver being in F1. Poor old Michael in Quali' at Spa. He's been battering around all morning on a set of inter's to really get a feel for the car in the wet and then, in quali', it seems as though somebody forgot to put one of his back wheels on properly, he lost the wheel on his Q1 out-lap and went into a tyre wall, thus starting last tomorrow. |

Yes you need talent to back it up but it's how motorsport works. |

No matter what your beef with another driver you just do not do that.
Severe penalty needed to send a message |

I'd be inclined to agree with this. That 'move' from Maldonado was deliberate and malicious. I reckon that's why he's stopped out on the track, rather than go back to the pits straight away, and face the music. Complete and utter muppet!
Was impressed with Bruno Senna, he seemed to be well ahead of Petrov in his first race, while Heidfeld is generally on par or slower than the russian. |

Completely confused about the Maldonado incident. What was he thinking??
Didn't think Senna did too badly despite the question mark over him at the moment. He even beat Alonso (even if he doesn't have the best record at Spa, I was still expecting better than 8th!). Also sad for Button so hoping he can get a better result for tomorrow. |

I think it was one of those times where the circuit was continually drying so whoever was last across the line would have an advantage which goes some way to explain Alonso's position.
Nice to see Senna do okay. Perhaps I was a bit harsh previously. I suspect most of his problems come from inexperience rather than a lack of talent. I'd still be willing to bet he won't finish the race tomorrow though, especially if the weather is bad. |

I think disqualification from this race alone would be enough for Maldonado. With a heavy fine and warning to be on best behaviour for the rest of the season.
If it had been higher speed/put Hamilton fully out of the grand prix then it would be the next step up - 3/5 race ban, etc. |

Button looked like a front two row position was all but guaranteed and he could even have made a challenge for pole. Shame. Hopefully he'll get another drying track tomorrow and make his way towards the front. I don't know how likely a safety car is here, that would help. |

It was really odd bringing Button in. On a track that is getting faster with every lap I don't understand why you wouldn't stay out till the last second.

I think he was just trying to show his frustration, not actually attempting to hit Hamilton. Hamilton moved to the right a little after Maldonado's first swipe. Maldonado shouldn't have been doing that in the first place, but, unless he is crazy, I don't think he meant to make contact. He should still get a ban for this race though and a fine.
Maybe Hamilton sped up as Maldonado passed him and that's why they collided? |

I think Maldonado should get at least a three race ban. They need to send out a message to all drivers in FIA events that deliberately crashing into drivers will have severe consequences. Maldonado also got a multiple race ban a number of years ago for dangerous driving so he could be in a lot of bother as I'm sure this will also be considered. I don't think it's relevant whether or not Hamilton could continue and this should not be taken into account when imposing a penalty.

According to F1Grid on twitter, both Hamilton and Maldonado have been summoned by the stewards.
