TBH, I suppose it could be argued that Ferrari could use Fiorano whenever they want cos it is already there so, theoretically, there's no expense incurred by using it.

I always thought that the teams with a car manufacturer behind them would have an advantage when it comes to budget.
I mean, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault/Lotus, Caterham could, theoretically, spend millions developing, say, some fancy new brakes that are, allegedly, for a forthcoming road-car project and then, conveniently, hand the completed item over to their F1 team at no cost.

From what I've heard, however, it seems that most of the teams think that it's RBR who's fiddling their budget more than any other team.
Kinda makes me wonder how they're getting away with it.
I mean, it's not like Red Bull can spend money developing stuff for fizzy drinks and then hand it over to RBR as a "freebie".

I think the issue is really to do with manhours. The more manhours you spend, the faster you go (in theory). The technical regulations prevent almost any innovation reaching one particular car. This is why the RBR has been so intriguing this year, the other teams haven't discovered its secrets so it must be an abuse of the RRA in some other way, like taking your work home with you in the evenings.

Well, judging from the amount of new posts I guess everybody else found the Brazil race to be as thrilling as I did?

About the most noteworthy thing that happened was that the BBC lost the live feed from Brazil half way through the F1 forum so we didn't get to see any possible goodbyes from the BBC commentary team.

I hope the teams are closer in terms of performance next year

For anyone who's interested, Jake tweeted last night that the full F1 forum is available online. Suppose it might not have as good an effect as if it ended live but at least it's there.

Oh and yeah, not the most thrilling end to the season I agree. Congrats to Vettel again though. Just don't do the same next year please!

Guess I need to go find something to do until March now...

A good season for Jenson. He's the first team mate to beat Hamilton & that will be a massive confidebnce boost for him to build on next season.

It was excellent from Jenson, he really seemed to gain stature as the season went on..

Bit off but not altogether un-typical of the beeb that he didn't feature at all in the montage at the beginning of the programme

Thank you higher diety, this is all finished for another year.

Interwebs is awash with rumours Kimi is coming back with Lotus-Renault, to be announced imminently.

Was on Autosport this morning, their article carries a bit of detail.

EDIT: There are also rumours around that Kubica may have signed with Ferrari for 2013.

Looking at the rumoured driver moves next year. It's amazing that Force India look like they're willing to get rid of Sutil.

I'm a fan of Hulkenberg and would really like to see him in the car next season but I just think that Sutil has been the better driver for Force India this season and deserves a competetive drive.

He's competed regularly amongst the Mercedes and been successful but it appears as though he may end up in a less competetive car which he doesn't really deserve.

If Renault are looking for a couple of drivers they may want to wait a bit to see if Sutil does indeed become available as he could really move them up the grid next season.

Lotus Cars can do what the hell they like, they don't have to comply with the restrictions in the RRA, as they are not only title sponsors to the team. Lotus Renault is not a works team like McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and as of next year Caterham. It is owned by Genii Capital. The team and Genii are restricted by the RRA though.

The real issue with the RRA is how it is enforced. it's relatively easy to ensure teams don't use windtunnels or test tracks as there is phyisical evidence of their use but as has already been pointed out, it's virtually impossible to regulate the actual amount of work people put in. You can't stop someone from thinking about their car when they're not at work. Tighter financial regulation i.e. independent audit of books by forensic accountants might help but even then I bet the vast majority of people involved in car development do plenty of 'free' overtime which would be completely off the books anyway. The control on windtunnel and test track time actually penalise the smaller teams anyway as the larger teams can use CFD which they can use 'for free' to simulate the aerodynamics of the car in minute detail once the hardware and software are installed. RBR probably have the most sophisticated CFD hence why their car's aero packages have been the most effective.

Excellent news about Kimi coming back. So that's 6 WCs on the grid next season holding a total of 14 titles (IIRC: MSC - 7, ALO - 2, Vet - 2, RAI - 1, HAM - 1, BUT - 1). I wonder if Jaques, Mika & Damon could be tempted back? Then we'd have the winner of every DC back to 1994 still racing instead of just back to 2000.

Since I started watching F1 in the early 80's I don't think there's been more than 3 or 4 WCs racing at any one time with the exception of this current period. The most I can recall would have been 1986 with Prost, Piquet, Rosberg & Jones although Jones was not competative and 1999 with Schuey, Villeneuve, Hakkinen & Hill although agin Hill & Villneuve weren't very quick. To have 4 WCs racing for victories and another 1 or 2 pushing for points and maybe even podiums is excellent.

Lordy, that is NOT going to go well for Lotault.

I was never a fan of Raikonnen at the best of times but stick him in a good car and he'll certainly drive it as fast as it can possibly go.

The Renault is hardly a "good car" though and Raikkonen is hardly a good development driver.
All that's gonna happen is that he'll crash, whine and then sulk.

In other news, I guess this means that the rumours about Kubica might be true and that Massa should probably start looking for a new seat for 2013.

Still, perhaps Ferrari can sell all the kleenex they stockpiled for Massa to Renault for Raikkonen?

Kimi might be the Ice Man, but I will always remember him for something a few years ago.

My memory is a little hazy, but it was on the gridwalk and Brundle asked him something (think it was if he was going to something to do with Schumi on his last race just before the race actually started)

"No, I'm going for a shit"

F! 2012 just got ALOT more interesting for me. If the Renault team can produce a better car they have two great drivers in Kimi and Petrov.
