Great drive from Hamilton, but I do think that some of the racing has gone now. It's almost TOO easy to pass with the DRS and, especially with the tyre situation we're not really seeing people attacking and defending as much.

Fantastic by Webber too. I'd have loved to have seen his face if you'd suggested that result to him at the start of the race lol.

Solid win from Lewis, and and great job by the team before the start. Would have been a totally different story if the team had been a little slower rebuilding the airbox.

Not sure what was going on with Mr Easy-on-his-tyres at the end of the race. he didn't seem to have anything left to fight off Webber while Lewis was going away from him at a second a lap.

AMAZING race by Webber. Just superb!
Anybody who's trying to suggest he's past it needs to think again.

Nice to see a good race from Massa and Rosberg too.

Still not sure about the tyres.
Seems like a lot of the "smoother" drivers are already simply starting to rely on the DRS for one pass every few laps rather than actually battling all around the track.
I hope that doesn't become a habit for all the drivers.

OTOH, it seems like some of the fast boys are beginning to gain confidence in the tyres, getting a feel for just how hard they can push the tyres without burning them up prematurely.

Mostly strategy; not sure if that's good or bad, it's not like we would see a massive amount of overtaking if people were stuck on similar strats. Was great to see lewis overtaking outside of the DRS zone =D

It's also a bit of shame that the earlier stop undercuts so much more than trying to stay out a bit longer, last year it was a bit more both ways, this year its definitely one way.

The Tv direction seemed a bit random at times, we missed a few good points of action.

What a race that was.

I'd have to give driver of the day to Webber because his finish was just brilliant, even more so with him not having KERS!

Also fantastic stuff from Lewis. Just 35 seconds later at the beginning and it'd have been a very different story so kudos to his mechanics for working so fast.

Button will probably have a bit of a red face about his pitstop blunder but good stuff from him too, he was unlucky not to be on the podium. Ferrari need to step up a gear and quickly. Fernando has had a very forgettable weekend and Massa was doing well until his tyres went so it's a shame he wasn't on a 3 stopper too.

Oh and speaking of tyres, thank you Pirelli for spicing things up nicely.

Hello

I would sack the woman that failed to ask Button about the Pitstop blunder.

She had him fresh- he was smirking all the way through.

It was the elephant in the room but he had to bring it up- she didn't.

Get rid of her.

Her loyalty should be towards the viewers, not the drivers.

Anyhoo, this race was a spectacle but one born from a single mistake- it isn't a precedent.

It doesn't mean that F1 is suddenly exciting.

It's a sunny day in December

Normal service to be resumed next time

The mistake being Vettel's start or strategy?

Hello

I would say tire strategy- it's a McLaren false dawn.

I don't expect them to be wheel to wheel next time

Also, a track with long straights- favours muscle cars like McLaren- Red Bull prefers tight corners

It's a shame as I love Hamilton's race style and McLaren has such beautiful cars

7th. I think you might need glasses Mr/Mrs Benny.

No but seriously, as I said it was a very forgettable weekend from him and he needs to get working on his starts because they've been very mediocre so far. Not sure what's going on with Ferrari though. Their race pace isn't actually that terrible but qualifying isn't so good and they don't seem to have fresh, quick-thinking strategies at the mo. I read something a week or so ago about Flavio B saying that they should start focusing on next year's car and if they don't pull their finger out before Europe then I might have to agree with him.

Great race Pirelli and DRS have made it interesting again
you didnt know who was gonna win till the end
which is how it should be
Great drives by Lewis and webber
however it really was a strategic mistake by Red bull that cost them a win
they should have 3 stopped Vettel as webber proved the car was 1 sec a lap quicker
in race pace
I expect normal service to be resumed in turkey
i cant see mclaren making up the deficient till barcelona at the earliest

Indeed a bit like McLaren last year - their cars were just not fast enough, so the drivers could do very little about it.

Ugly, wasn't it?

Very enjoyable race - very pleased for Lewis and can't really complain about second for Seb after his last two wins.

Did have to switch the commentary off towards the end with Brundle getting more and more hysterical about Webber, but all credit to Mark for getting third.

Red bull really shot themselves in the foot here but the car is mega quick nearly 1.5sec in race pace!
maybe they could actually do what webber said in the press conference and
not bother to qualify and just save the option tires and with DRS and there speed
just blitz the field

1 Mark Webber 1:38.993
2 Lewis Hamilton 1:40.415
3 Jenson Button 1:40.623
4 Adrian Sutil 1:41.157
5 Nico Rosberg 1:41.166
6 Michael Schumacher 1:41.215
7 Vitaly Petrov 1:41.261
8 Sebastian Vettel 1:41.321

Think that might work up to a point but then the McLarens won't be the easiest to pass, also a 3 stopped Vettel would have still needed to pass 2 McLarens(well one as Button didn't use the right pit crew) in this race so it isn't a given that 3 stops would have won Vettel the race.

Would that mix the grid up? (something that some have been pushing for).

So we may have to get used to "Hamilton is first on the grid Vettel is 12th but has better tires available". To be honest I don't like the idea of having to take into accounts tires. Keep things simple.

1.5 seconds?
That is not remarkable, that is bullshit.

On with the tin hat.
Vettel was told to come second in this race.

So basically because Hamilton had the idea of saving a set of tyres, they'll all be copying that now?

How original!

As a fan I can't believe what a pillock Jenson made of himself at the pitstop.
Think it'll take a long time to live that one down.
Well done Lewis and Webber.

1.5 secs is low fuel on softs while everyone else is on hard tyres.

Yea...but at least everyone involved saw the funnyside.....The only person to loose out was Button himself...lost his place to Vettel.

I know that the softs are worth approx 1sec/lap

my point was by doing a reverse strategy may be a option

ie hard-soft-soft

everyone else has been doing soft-soft-hard

I suppose you'd have to stick the numbers into a very clever computer to get a proper answer but conventional wisdom has it that soft tyres are better at the start of the race if you're at the back of the grid because the closest that all the other cars are going to ever be is right after the lights go out.

Your best opportunity to make up places is within the first few laps, before all the cars ahead of you start to stretch out a lead.

What Webber did in Shanghai was clearly a smart strategy for that track on that day but I don't think it's going to be a panacea for every event.
