Strictly underdog Widdecombe is favourite to win

Sun Nov 7 2010 17:00:55

Unique dancer Anne Widdecombe is favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing 2010 and is showing no signs of bowing out.

After a series of low scoring performances which have recieved harsh criticism from judge Craig Revel Horwood, Widdecombe has consistently won enough viewer votes to sidestep low marks from the judges.

Due to her popularity with viewers, Anne is now tipped to take the title and win the show.

Last night the cheeky former MP kissed a picture of Revel Horwood during a jaunty Charleston routine.

The former dancer and choreographer was less than impressed with her efforts and delivered some withering comments before scoring her two points and saying: "The timing was bad throughout. The fishlift was a complete and utter disaster. You spend, in these routines, a lot more time sitting on your backside."

Anne replied: "And what do you do all day?"

Meanwhile Kara Toiton and rumoured beau Artem Chigvintsev opened the show with a salsa routine to Gloria Estefan's 'Conga' and got the highest score of the evening.

Widdecombe's unlikely success is reminiscent of Strictly Come Dancing 2008 when viewers kept John Sergeant in the competition for so long that he quit, citing fears that he might win.

She isn't though. Matt is, and even more of a heavy favourite than he's ever been.

Matt? Really?!

He's been about 2-1 and under since week 1. Scott came up to meet him briefly this week, but after that rumba he's dropped back, and Matt's now up to about 6-4. Ann's coming in, but she's still at about 7-1 to 9-1

Yes, but surely that's punters' prediction, not an indication of how popular they are with the viewers, I mean the ever-elusive BBC voting figures, right?

If Ann Widdecombe wins it'll be a travesty

Based on what we've seen so far Matt doesn't deserve to win it. He'd be a better champion than Ann but then so would an iguana. I don't think we can guess who's going to win yet, it's still too early.

Yep. Widders is only 4th favourite according to Paddy Power (other bookmakers are available).

Interestingly, PP are still accepting bets on all ten celebs, even though they must, presumably, know the spoiler.

Well yes, but if the article says "tipped" and "favourite" you'd presume it meant bookmakers, rather than just ITV deciding she is because she's lasted about as long as Jo Wood managed to.

Why isn't Kara the favourite?

I always take these articles with a pinch of salt. After all they want to create controversy.

All the polls so far including the news of the world have Matt in the lead

IMO some of Ann's comments last night wouldn't have endeared her to quite a number of viewers - she seemed very complacent I thought.

Well they can hardly stop taking bets on the eliminated person, that woud give it away! A better solution would be to suspend betting between the start of the live show and the end of the results show, but sheer financial greed stops that!

Ann won't win, we've had the comedy couples (Chris Parker, Julian Clary) reach the final a few times, but haven't won. The voters will ultimately go for the best dancers. Team Cola just happened to have the lot!

She looks good, but she's incredibly bland. She's got no chance of winning.

No, that's right I don't fancy her, but I would vote for her if Pamela were to go out.

Kara is the least annoying, least simpering and least stomach-churning cloyingly sickly out of most of the women there. Good for her. I'd vote for her above any of the FUN brigade or the dead nan bingo players any day.
