Why does Pixie Lott sound so different live compared to in the studio?

I know studio versions of songs are always better, but the voice is more or less the same. However, with Pixie she sounds completely different live, very nasal and sometimes flat (a good comparison would be the studio Cry Me Out vs. live Cry Me Out).

Does anyone else agree? I can't fathom how she can sound so different. I stress that she doesn't sound worse, just different.

You really have to be there when she's performing live to appreciate what a talent she is.

I admit she had not been pitch-perfect during the promotion of Cry Me Out, but recently she's been brilliant and if you're seeing her on tour she'll definitely prove she's a fantastic singer live.

I've seen her twice live, and agree with you. I saw her when she supported Rihanna, and then also at the Summertime Ball this year, and she was so much better than whenever I've heard her live on TV. I remember when I first heard her live on TV, doing a Jackson 5 number on a BBC One show, and she sounded awful. She has improved so much.

I thought she was fantastic when I saw her but she sounds awful 99% on television.

Has to be the way her voice comes across on the tv then.

Every time i see her, her voice always sounds as if she's straining, or that she's constipated. Her voice really grates on me.

Oh, the powers of recording studio's these days.

I saw her live supporting The Saturdays and her voice sounded brilliant. She doesn't sound great on TV at all and Cry Me Out was always out of her range really.

All these posts justifying my point that you really have to go see her live in order to see how good she really is live. The TV fools viewers way too much.

She is very good live i think. She doesn't do cry me out well at all. I've seen her do that loads and not once has she done well. I actually prefer her live version of Broken arrow then the studio version. Not because i was used to it for a few months but because there is something from the studio version i loved from the live version.

She does Mama do brilliantly lIve.

It's all production on her voice? I highly doubt she would go to the extent of having manufactured chest register notes in the song when she can't produce them at all.

Have you seen her sing live? If you're going to her tour then she'll prove to you that she can sing much better than a lot of other artists around today.

How can someone always sound crap on the TV, but great live???

I remember watching American Idol a few years back, Simon had to retract his praise of one of the singers when he watched the performance back on the TV. He said he could hear them properly when watching it on the TV.

There ya go, then.

First of all, if she sounds crap on TV it's not "always".

I thought The Saturdays and JLS were terrible singers live after watching performances on TV, but I saw them live once and they were both really good. This is coming from a non-JLS fan. The same goes for Florence Welch who I thought was really bad based a few TV performance, but my mates who saw her at a gig once was mightily impressed at how good she was.

I think I can never really judge an artists' live vocals just by watching them on the telly. I have to be there to appreciate, or wear earplugs on the other hand, to judge whether they are good live.
