Ricky was the man at 140lbs for 4 years. He hardly failed at the top level, his two defeats came against future hall of famers and he holds a win over another.
The worst thing about Hatton is that shouldn't of been the end. If he lived the life he still could of been a top fighter at 147lbs after the Pacman defeat. He was young enough to keep going but his antics outside the ring cut the shelf life of his career,

Ricky never had the frame to do much at 147. Yes he could beat an odd weak title holder but it would never have lasted.

As well as his lifestyle Ricky never had the ring style to have a long career, he took way too much punishment even before he was a world champion. He used to walk through shots that by the end were stopping him in his tracks.

The manner of the Pacquiao would have also made continuing difficult regardless of his lifestyle.

I never meant to imply that Hatton was a failure if that's how it came across. The real point was that he and Frank didn't shirk anyone, even the most feared fighters of their generation. Frank in particular looked terrified in his first fight with Tyson and God knows how he must have felt in the build up to that but he still went for it. BJS has lost a little respect from me for his stance on GGG. I'm sure Billy will still be able to sleep at night though

Hatton V Cotto @ 140lbs would of been a great fight. Shame that never happened.

As much as i like Fury as a boxer, i'm sure there are far more deserving fighters out there who are more deserving of that title.

Eh, not really. Mayweather or Alvarez the other two contenders off the top of my head, and you can make an argument for any. He took on an undisputed champion who a lot of people thought was unbeatable in his own back yard and won comfortably. Love him or hate him it's one of the greatest victories in boxing history. Ring magazine has long lost any credibility it had, but it's good recognition for Fury.

I know what you're saying but the actual fight if that's what you want to call it was a huge disappointment. More of a hug fest.

If Fury goes on to defend for say 2 years then yes, give him the accolade then, but i just think its a bit premature.

just seen that Hayes fight is on Dave tomorrow. Seems a strange choice of channel, was no-one else interested?

Re Dave.

Good news, Paul Demsey is hosting.

Bad news, Ronald McIntosh is doing the commentary.

That was the most brutal heavyweight brawl since The Thrilla in Manilla.

I am emotionally exhausted.

I wonder how much ringside tickets cost for that fight??

Hardly worth the cost of the TV licence, nevermind the cost of an actual ticket!

Why was it ? Care to be constructive ? If it had gone to 12 rounds and a points decision would you think more of Haye ?

Thanks for the laughs guys. But all said and done, Haye being back stirs the pot nicely. Just hope his shoulder holds out to fight Aj or Fury or even Whyte.

if it had went 12 rounds then i would've laughed my arse off. i would definitely have thought less of haye had it gone 12 rounds with the dominator mark de mori.

a better opponent would've been nice. not some aussie bum

I'm happy for Haye. I still don't think AJ shouldn't rush into a fight with Haye until he gets a few more tougher fights like his last under his belt. Haye still has experience on his side. AJ took a while to recover when he got hurt, Haye might not give him a chance to do that.

i honestly don't see haye fighting joshua. if he does then i can see him trying to run and hardly punch like the valuev fight. he probably doesn't have the speed now to do that.
