Spot on.

There are no Julian Jacksons around today at 160, so I can't see anyone denting Golovkin's chin, unless he suddenly grows old.
Yes it depends on how long he wants to fight.

It must be so frustrating for him that the bloody Ring Magazine can still regard Alvarez as 'their' champion when he has done his very best impression of Usain bolt - not that I blame him.

There are not many fighters in history with blast-proof chins, bone-crushing power as well as excellent technique but GGG is one of them.

Found the fight online so I am going to enjoy it now.

There's no point in Alvarez fighting Brook.

Canelo has famously ducked Golovkin already & it will only open him up to further ridicule if he starts feasting on Golovkin's leftovers.

Alvarez v Brook is a total waste of time: people want to see him fight Golovkin, not another over hyped mismatch against another game welterweight that doesn't really belong in the ring with him.
Well, tbh there was no point in Alavarez fighting Khan, but they both made money. Brook V Alavarez would be a huge fight in England at least.

I don't think Alvarez V GGG will ever happen. The first one doesn't want to go up (or fight ) and GGG is a natural top-end middleweight who shouldn't go down.

I would dispute the "excellent technique" bit (yes, I know about his superior skill in cutting off the ring) , because top fighters don't usually get hit as much as GGG does. He reminds me of comeback George Foreman the way he walks through punches to land harder ones. That's why I don't want him to drop down and meet Alavarez at 154 or that catchweight rubbish because I think that will harm his punch resistance and hand him his first defeat.

Chris eubank Jr now wants to fight GGG. Wasn't he supposed to fight him before kell brook or was that another fighter?

The Eubank's priced themselves out of the fight, it seems they were just using GGG to raise Jr's profile. BJS has also priced himself out of a fight with GGG, everyone should remember this when they're talking themselves up in the media, Brook did what they wouldn't.

Eubank Jr has done nothing so far in his career and doesn't deserve the pay day or acclaim of for getting in the ring with GGG

Yes at least brook was willing to go up 2 divisions to fight, eubank and BJS are middleweights and yet haven't done anything until now when they're mouthing off especially eubank with regards stopping the fight. His corner would rather put his career at risk than stop the it which is utter bollocks of course, they'd have done exactly what Brendan did.

They couldn't get the Blackwell fight stopped quick enough and criticised the referee Victor Loughlin for not halting it earlier, now they're slagging off Dominic Ingle for pulling his fighter out who was suffering not only sustained punishment but a fractured eye socket. Pair of idiots. Eubank junior is a decent fighter but ultimately he's a hype job.

I think Eubank Jr could do well against GGG, he has the speed and power (likely more than brook) to hurt him, however if/when he gets hit I can't see him withstanding much punishment.

The comments about the stoppage are crass and stupid and purely to gain some publicity.

I do like eubank Jr but he needs talk less and concentrate on his boxing, Same goes for his dad, talking part not boxing obviously. Surely it's too soon to be fighting GGG. Why not fight BJS? Winner of that fights GGG.

Agree with you both about the comments. His dad is a bad influence on his career there. However, I think he'd be better off getting the big money and fighting GGG than BJS again.

Anyway, does the panel think Smith has a chance against Alvarez? In all the excitment I kinda forgot about this one. Haven't seen a lot of Smith, but I think there's someone on here who knows the smith brothers personally and said that Liam is the best of the lot. He'll need to be.....

And that stupid decison somehow makes him the tough guy?? Sure he trousered several million in doing so but he is now at a major crossroads in his career and not even sure what weight he should be boxing at ... that is even discounting his injury.

Eubank jnr has 5 or 6 good years ahead of him and is really just getting started.

Think Alvarez might be too powerful on the night for Smith, but Smith can certainly outbox him for a decision.

The smart money would be on Alvarez though, maybe a late stoppage.

Well I don't think Brook should have taken the fight, since the Porter fight he should've been in America chasing the likes of Garcia and Thurman. Eubank though has repeatedly talked about fighting GGG, but when it came down to signing a contract, they made sure the fight didn't happen. If he wants to talk a big game then he leaves himself open to criticism.

Thinking of subscribing to boxnation for smith v alvarez fight and for Tyson fury's fight, £12 a month. Is it easy to cancel because I'm not looking to keep it?

Depends how you're signing up etc, I did mine through Virgin Media for the cancelled Fury fight and the Khan fight earlier this year, after the Fury fight was cancelled I ended my contract and it was very easy.

Alright then folks.

GGG v Hagler - who have you got?

Punching power GGG - chins even, technique Marvin.

War for the ages over 15 rounds?

I think so.

How about this?

Louis, Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis and the Klitschkos in a tournament (don't count most of the early heavyweights like Cribb, Sullivan, Johnson, Jeffries, Dempsey etc because they were too small/crude by modern standards).

My favourite would be the '58 version of Liston v the '88 version of Tyson - people forget now but the Liston of the late '50's at the time was regarded by some as the greatest heavyweight who ever lived.

Tyson faster, Sonny with the superior jab and probably raw punching power - plus the intimidation factor would come into it - the 'jailhouse' mentality did not work on Ali from an ageing Liston but it would on Tyson who was just a bully himself.

What a fight!

After last weeks mismatch which was accurately predicted by most, Alvarez, Smith is a genuine match up. I honestly think that Smith has a good chance of beating the Mexican. Alvarez is big at the weight and on fight night is a lot heavier. Smith on the other hand is also big at the weight frame wise and should not get pushed around.

It's probably 60 / 40 in Alvarez's favour if not more, but I think that if he fights to the best of his ability that Smith could win it. It's just nice to see a genuine match up as opposed to a fighter in a contest mainly for the money and money alone. That's not the sport of boxing and not what fans want to see.

When khan fought Alvarez he won every round up until the point where he got sparked out, now whether that was Alvarez's plan knowing about khan's glass jaw to let him control the fight and wait for his chance, it's a risky strategy but it worked. If it was his plan I very much doubt he'll employ that strategy against smith. All the makings of a great fight this.

Would have been a cracking fight.

I'd give Hagler the edge due to his slightly superior skills & his longer reach.

Hagler wasn't that tall, but he had a much longer reach than most people he fought, with the exception of Hearns & he still managed to decimate the Hitman.

Golovkin would make him work for his money & it wouldn't surprise me if he cut or swelled the Marvellous one's eyes, but I'd give Hagler the edge, primarily down to the fact that we know what Hagler could do when greatness was in the other corner.

We don't know what Golovkin could do if an ATG was in the other corner, although that is not his fault, but it is a factor.

That is a very fair post and one thing I am certain of - no one is getting stopped.

But I do think GGG hits harder than any full middle Marvin ever faced (including 'Cyclone' Hart) - hard enough to really hurt him in fact.

The fact that GGG has not faced another all time great is a factor although Marv never met another great middleweight either (the other members of the fab four were moving up of course).

It's a pick em fight for me atm - using the '83 version of Hagler.

But if GGG carries on in search and destroy mode it will be interesting to see where historians rank him at the end of his career.

Fabulous point.

I never considered that, but Golovkin is indeed a better MW than Duran, Hearns & Leonard were & might just have been the best full MW Marvellous Marvin had to face.

I'm starting to waver now, because Golovkin is special.

He's certainly the best MW since Hopkins & probably the best since Hagler himself.

No doubt, it would have been some fight between those two!

Why couldn't Golovkin have been born in 1952 outside of the Soviet Union, then he would have been right in the mix against the big 4!
