Anyone else think kts odd that oscar has checked into rehab four days before the biggest promotion of his career? I smell some kind of controversy that oscar wants to appear distant from. Probally canelos weight i reckon.
Matthysse vs garcia defo the one im most pumped for though and if lucas tries to hook with garcia i reckon he could be in trouble. Garcia is great in exchanges and at punching with his opponents and he has great timing. Still favour lucas though but i think garcia is being sold short. |

It's a bit of an oddity that both Garcia and Matthysse have got reputations as big punchers (huge puncher in Matthysse's case) yet Matthysse lost to Judah and Garcia had some troubling moments against him, with both going the distance. Zab's a very good boxer, but he's never been the most durable.
(I did actually have Judah beating Matthysse too. Close but fair decision. He was robbed blind against Devon Alexander though) |

I know what you mean, judah suprised me in both of those fights. He's slick and experienced though and has faced better opposition than both of those guys in the past.

Bloody hell, only just seen that Dean Powell killed himself midweek. Shocked at both his death and the lack of news coverage of it.

column inches for boxing are very small these days no matter the news, even tonight's event has barely been covered in the papers or on the Beeb.
Pretty poor |

Floyd Mayweather Jr is peerless right now.
I really wish Floyd was 20 years older because I would have loved to have seen him go up against the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran & Pipino Cuevas, plus you can add Aaron Pryor to the mix too. He deserves to be mentioned with the greats, but, unlike them, who had each other to fight, Floyd has no real peers. What's even more remarkable about Floyd is that well into his 37th year, he doesn't look to be slowing down at all. The majority of boxers are on their way out or finished at that age, but Floyd is still right on top. |

Booth isn't training Groves now, not the best preparation for the biggest fight of your life.

Sad news . Ken Norton has died he was 70
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/ken-norton-...030133668.html Always remember that fight with Ali when he broke his jaw. Watched it on the TV live , which was unusual at that time, and couldn't believe Ali was losing as I'd never heard of him at that time Ken also appeared in some films, the only one that springs to mind is Mandingo |

The heavyweight division was really tough in those days. Some 15 round fights too!
RIP Ken. |

Floyd's chin has never been really tested by a one punch KO artist. with great hand speed like a Tommy Hearns. No doubt that Hearns would have landed major bombs on Floyds chin at some point. Unlike Leonard, Floyd lacks power so Hearns wouldn't have to be wary of going in and getting badly hurt like he did with Leonard. As an all round fighter Mayweather doesn't begin to compare to a peaktime Leonard! I'd also have taken a peaktime Duran to have been too fast and busy for Mayweather and outpointed him. |

It would have been difficult for Floyd to keep Duran off him, Leonard had 15 rounds of trench warfare dealing with Duran and I think at his peak Leonard was a more complete fighter and boxer than Floyd.

Apart from the 90s, we haven't had such a talent rich heavyweight division before or since. RIP Champ.

Those fighters were way above the level of opponants Mayweather has faced!

As an all round fighter Mayweather doesn't begin to compare to a peaktime Leonard! I'd also have taken a peaktime Duran to have been too fast and busy for Mayweather and outpointed him. Floyd is great, but you don't really know how great a fighter is until that said fighter has faced adversity. This is why Sugar Ray Leonard is a true all-time great of boxing, because he faced adversity & came through it. Floyd has never been in a true 'life or death' struggle in any of his contests to date, because there just isn't anyone out there. An ageing De La Hoya gave can him some fits, but Oscar was too far past his best to really test Mayweather. I also think the Duran of the 70s & the one who jumped up to welterweight to beat Leonard would have been Floyd's second worst nightmare, only surpassed by the Tommy Hearns that slaughtered Pipino Cuevas. Tommy Hearns was almost unqiue in that he could put you to sleep with one shot, but when his power didn't work, he could outbox the very best boxers, like he did with Leonard, Wilfredo Benitez & Virgil Hill late in his career at light heavyweight. Nobody could outbox Tommy Hearns & the only guys that beat him were guys that had good chins & stamina & were able to put him under pressure; I don't think Mayweather would have had the power to worry Hearns & he certainly was too small to outbox Tommy too. |

Well I hope that everyone gets a refund, espcially those who had pre-booked hotels, and possibly any travel plans (such as flights etc).

I wonder when it'll happen! Not this year I would imagine, I dont see Sky bumping the Froch/Groves fight off box office in November to accommodate this and I highly doubt that people will buy two fights in about month!

I imagine Sky will be pissed off with Haye pulling out. A lot of fans would of paid the £15 box office fee.

David Haye and pay per view just don't mix I suppose.
I'll be watching Boxnation, far better card. Although the way it's going they could all quite easily go to points so there might not be a clash in the main events anyway. |
