Finally (
) got round to watching Froch V Groves. Great fight but have to say I agreed with the ref's stoppage. The awkward, head-locking way that the ref stopped the fight masked the fact that, for about a half-second, Groves was out on his feet.Be prepared for my next up-to-date boxing report as I catch up with the Maidana V Broner fight after xmas

I thought Broner would win aswell. Made up he didn't though. Such a horrible person. Lost count of the elbow pushes and late shots.
Credit to Maidana though, can take a shot and can bang with the best of them. Would love to see him fight Mayweather. He was obviously trying to get out of the fight & win by DQ, but luckily & thankfully, he came to his senses & took his whupping like a man. Hopefully he'll drop back down in weight, shut his gob & increase his workrate in fights. I think Maidana -v- Mayweather is definitely on the radar. He's probably got little or no chance of beating FMJ, but Floyd neds to fight someone for all that money they're paying him. |

His reaction to the headbutt was pathetic.

Maidana laid the blueprint of how to beat him last night. Think Broner should drop back down, fight Burns and then see what he can do. Fighting way to high a weight last night though. |

knew broner would find it tough. He isnt that good and is pure hype!
He wont learn from this though. The guy really believes he is the next floyd. Maidana deserves a fight with floyd above Khan thats for sure. Also its an easier sell for showtime also. The fight I'd like to see is a Khan v Maidana rematch. |

No way is Maidana an easier sell than Khan. Maidana vs Mayweather is an awful matchup, as are most really, but at least with Khan you've got the speed factor and the chin factor to add a bit of intrigue. Mayweather v Maidana would be like Alexander v Maidana only 100 times more comprehensive (and a tip if you've never seen that fight: don't bother). Regardless, Danny Garcia deserves a fight with Mayweather ahead of all of them.
The fight I'd like to see is a Khan v Maidana rematch. And yes your right, Khan should give Maidana a rematch. No chance he will though. |

Khan did well vs Maidana, but Khan has deteriorated since then whereas Maidana improves every fight. That would not be a pretty fight for a Khan fan. I'd like to see Maidana rematch Alexander, their first fight was Maidana's 1st at 147 and he didn't adjust well to the extra weight at all, but now I think he is comfortable at 147.
The fight GBP are probably looking at is Thurman vs Maidana with the winner taking a shot at Mayweather. Khan is nearly a non-entity in America, he has little fan base, little interest, and he hasn't even fought since April! Does he think having a year out will prepare him well vs Mayweather? He's even more deluded than we feared if that was the case. Maidana on the other hand fights regularly, fights top fighters regularly, has a much better profile in America, and there aren't many times an American crowd has chanted a foreigner's name when he was facing an American(although it was probably because that American was Broner...). As for Broner, he has shown he is not the new Mayweather. Not an elite fighter in the ring, nor does he have the same level of dedication as Mayweather outside of the ring. Plus It feels like Broner is genuinely hated; the fans don't like him, fighters don't have any respect for him, even the Showtime team looked genuinely happy he lost like Broner was a problem for their network, and even his own trainer looked less than happy with Broner's antics before and during the fight. I actually felt alittle sorry for him with his quick exit from the arena. He looked like someone who had forgotten who he was, like he had lost sight of why he got into the sport in the first place. He had been completely humiliated by Maidana in the ring, and the crowd let it be known what they thought of him. It was the kind of experience that is either going to make or break him. |

So happy that Broner got humbled, he underestimated Maidana and he completely believes he is untouchable and walks on water so it must be devastating to lose how he did. I don't think Maidana is up to Mayweather at all and I think Garcia deserves a crack more than anyone. Everyone underestimates Danny and has him down to lose each time but he was supreme against Matthysse and probed a hell of a lot of people wrong. I would actually love to see Maidana V Matthysse. That would be a real brawl with both going hell for leather. I'd love to see Floyd tackle Bradley but it would never happen. I think Bradley could pose Floyd some problems

Bradley doesn't beat him, but he's probably the best option for 'Money' to fight, but it won't happen unfortunately. |

Agree on all counts with this, especially a potential Bradley -v- Mayweather Jr clash.
Bradley doesn't beat him, but he's probably the best option for 'Money' to fight, but it won't happen unfortunately. As for Broner, even his hardest punches didn't hurt Maidana and I was surprised with how defensive he was and the lack of punches but he was struggling to take Maidana's shots so was probably too wary about being hit on the counter. I really can't stand Broner and I don't think he would reign supreme at 140 either. He is only great at lightweight |

Just watched the Broner fight from the weekend in full & I have a great big huge massive smile on my face.
The lad is an eejit, seeing him punished like that by Maidana I hope will put manners on him. He'll come back though, that fight was a very dangerous one for Broner from the outset.... anyone with any knowledge of Boxing will know that Maidana never stops coming at the opposition with serious bombs in his gloves. Broner will be back though.... |

Broner will be back though.... Hamed was a quality fighter who achieved good things, but he had a lot of flaws & wasn't quite as great as he thought he was. When he got beat by Barrera, he realised that boxing wasn't quite as easy as he thought it was & it dawned on him that he wasn't quite as great as he believed he was. As a consequence, Naz only fought one more lacklustre fight after that, then quit the sport at 28 which so much more to offer. In respect of Broner, the speed at which he left the ring at weekend suggests to me that his ego, which is so large that it has its own postcode took a considerable bruising & it might hasten a Naz style loss of hunger & quitting of the sport. I could be entirely wrong, but it's just a feeling I get about Broner. |

Looks unlikely, with his ego he is just going to get continually brutalised if he stays at 147. I would be happy for a Maidana rematch. |

Vitali Klitschko has finally retired! About time too. I thought Vitali was going for Joe Louis' record for the longest amount of time he did NOT have to defend his world title! Louis had the perfect excuse, it was called World War 2; what was Vitali's? The HW division is dire enough as it is without one of the major world title belts locked out in virtual perpetuity. |

However, i will remember him for his highly entertaining slugfest against a shot Lennox Lewis. Both of them were so slow that neither could avoid eachothers punches which resulted in a an almost hilarious, Rocky style brutal punch out. Vitali always seemed like a nice enough guy, so i wish him well for the future. |

Interesting about Eubank's inability to finish a fight after what happened to Watson. I think Pacquiao is the same after what he did to Margarito, since then he has never been the same.
Fighter of the Year: Writers will say either Kovalev or Stevenson, but it's got to be Marcos Maidana! Young Fighter of the Year: Santa Cruz. He looks like a punk but he's one hell of a fighter. Fight of the Year: Provodnikov vs Bradley, but so many others could be FOTY. Performance of the Year: 1) Maidana vs Broner, 2) Garcia vs Matthyse. Trainer of the Year: Angel Garcia for masterminding Garcia's win over Matthyse. I thought he was going to get flattened, but he did all the things Broner could not. High point of the Year: As much as I'd love to say Broner's ring exit, it's got to be Barker's win vs Geale. Low point of the Year: Burns' draw vs Beltran. Fight i'm most looking forward to in 2014: Cotto vs Martinez. |

The fact that this robotic lump has been the best for a number of years, only goes to show what a desperate state that division is in.

He's a total embarrassment. He should have retired when he bitched out of his first fight with the bloated Danny Williams back in 2005. I notice that he unretired after his last embarrassing loss, but hasn't fought or made any sort of announcement; how bizarre. He just needs to go & find alternative employment. He's a charismatic & articulate guy, so he could consider punditry or something: but boxing is way out of his league. |

Pascal -v- Bute: What an odd fight.
Bute just doesn't like any type of pressure, even the miniscule pressure that Pascal put on him & absolutely will not take any type of a gamble. The only time Bute attacked with any authority was when Pascal (probably because he was knackered) was stood doing nothing at the end of the 11th & start of the 12th. Pascal is just lazy with poor stamina & thought he could KO Bute with one shot. Although Pascal won it, he was not convincing at all. Adonis Stevenson & Sergey Kovalev have nothing to worry about watching these two. |

I agree with the above. It really looked like Pascal was just holding back in every round except to step it up in the 30 seconds of each round.
Bute seemed dignified in his acceptance of the result. Pascal not the best bloke really. |
