Surprisingly the people i have spoken to around here are split. Luke has had more important things to worry about than fighting for a while though.
I am well up for a night at the KC Darren, but surely any sensible boxing fan knows this is a mismatch. Luke wins anyway he chooses. It would need a great undercard like at Hull KR for me to part with my cash.

However as you say Luke has more important things to worry about at the moment and I cant see Luke committing to something that big at this time.

Braver in what way? Mayweather has fought the best in every division his fought in.

PHP Code:
Has he?! He hasn't fought Pacquiao, and Pacquaio wanted the fight 5 years ago.
Maidana was all pressure. Ricky Hatton was all pressure. Cotto was pressure. Mayweather can handle fighters who try to pressure him as his inside game is very very good. His stronger than one thinks. As for the power argument. Mayweather has a good chin. He got nailed clean bang on the button from Mosley and Maidana and took the shots. Paquaio isnt ko’ing Mayweather.

PHP Code:
MaidanaHattonCottoThey are not in Pacquiao's league. Come fight night, FM will really see what 12 rounds pressure is.
There is a reason for that. While not having one punch power Mayweather still hits hard enough to gain respect. His a sharpshooter, the most accurate puncher in the sport and fighters cant just walk him down without running the risk of being nailed by slick counters. Mayweather reduces opponents output. If Pacquiao lunges in like he does regularly his getting nailed and the best punch to hit a southpaw with is the straight right hand. Mayweather has the best straight right in the business and will walk Paquiao onto it.

PHP Code:
The only time Pacquiao 'lunged in' was against Marquez (4). He paid the price and will have learnt from thatPacquiao is a master of feints if you watch his fights
Bradley who is nowhere near as quick as Floyd still nailed Pacquiao with plenty of right hands.

PHP Code:
Bradley is faster than FM imo

Froch v Groves rematch

Well, it's now reported that the rematch will take place on Saturday 31st May at Wembley stadium and it will be a huge fight.

Groves has had injuries in the past that have delayed fights, and whether he pulls out or not remains to be seen. Froch has also had injuries but has chosen to fight through them rather than postpone or cancel a fight. Calzaghe did similar, and most notably against Lacy in a fight that he subsequently dominated.

Tactics?! Froch should win, but needs to work hard on tactics, and avoid getting hit as much. He managed to adjust well for the Kessler rematch which bodes well, as he was too confident and dismissive in the first fight there and paid the price. It was similar against Groves in the first fight, and again, he got hit far too much.

Froch needs to work hard to ensure he is fully fit and injury free, and get his tactics spot on. He knows he can't beat Groves for speed early on, and when Groves gets in range, Froch needs to use feints and punish Groves hard to the body. Maybe fighting on the back foot to start with is an idea, with a lot more sideways movement, and much quicker footwork. Groves will probably try to hit and run this time around and nick the fight on points. That won't work unless Froch is on the slide and 'gets old overnight' as they say, since he always seems to be able to hunt quick opponents down and is the best finisher in boxing. Ward only just beat him, and Groves is nowhere near Ward's class.

In the first fight, to be fair to Groves he had a very good idea as to what combinations Froch would use and when, and did well to slip many of Froch's power shots. As already mentioned, feints by Froch and a few new angles would be a good idea for the second fight. As Groves slows in the later rounds, Froch will pick him off and knock him out imo. Groves' only hope is to knock Froch out early, but as Froch showed in the first fight, he can take Groves' power, but Groves can't take Froch's power.

The early rounds will be crucial, and Froch needs to be on top of his game to avoid hurtful punches. He was ridiculously slow early on in the first fight and has to improve there. Joe Calzaghe had the perfect attitude, and it was to always train as the challenger both mentally and physically. If Carl Froch can do that, then it's a Froch win by KNOCK OUT.

Will mind games play a part? The public aren't stupid, and Groves is deluding himself if he thinks that anybody other than idiots fall for his goading. If Froch gets drawn in, he only has himself to blame. Any reasonably intelligent person would just ignore Groves and laugh at him. At the end of the day, it's what a boxer / fighter does in the ring that counts, and for all Groves' boasting before the last fight, it was Groves that ended up looking like an idiot, especially in the latter rounds.

The only hope for GG is a flat performance from Carl Froch on the night. It happened with Naseem Hamed, although there it was his weight before the fight and a lack of hunger and desire that did the damage, and even then he only just lost against a peak condition Barrera. I can't see Froch making those mistakes.

I certify that this is a true and fair reflection of my thoughts at this time

By the way, if anyone has Carl Froch's contact details, can they let me know. This advice isn't free!

Excellent fight. Kovalev was very impressive. Good to see him in a proper test as well.

.

Should of agreed to the same drug testing he has done now then. Pretty ridiculous that years later Pacquiao agrees to random testing.

Maidana, Hatton, Cotto? They are not in Pacquiao's league. Come fight night, FM will really see what 12 rounds pressure is.
Not exactly a counter argument. It's like me saying Pacquiao hasn't fought a counter puncher anywhere close to what Mayweather is.

The only time Pacquiao 'lunged in' was against Marquez (4). He paid the price and will have learnt from that. Pacquiao is a master of feints if you watch his fights.
Must be my imagination that saw JMM put Pacquiao on his back multiple times. Even feather fisted Aligri nailed right hands. Pacquiao is open for the right hand and this time his up against the most versatile right hand in the sport.

Everybody has a plan for Mayweather. They all think they have seen the flaws and will expose them and they all fail.

Give over. The sum total of your credentials is calling a re-match in favour of the fighter who stopped the other fighter in the previous fight?

Kovalev is a beast.

Jean Pascal must be made out of tittanium; one tough man.

He's too tough for his own good.

I really hope that a fight between Kovalev & Stevenson can be made.

They're both killers, but I would lean towards Kovalev.

Pacquiao agreed to the tests many years ago. Check your facts. FM ran out of excuses in the end.

Yeah, your imagination that one. Have you watched the footage? Did you mean Pacquaio's right hand?

Carl Froch exposed GG on the night, and come May 2nd, FM will be exposed as well by the best pfp fighter in the world.

On Pacquiao v Mayweather, I'm saying nothing more.

The experts have spoken, most notably Miguel Cotto who has fought both fighters.

If Pacman had the power he possesed several years ago, i'd have put my house on him winning and winning by a big margin or even a late stoppage. Speed, power, variety of punch, work rate would have all been heavily in his favour.
I hope he has enough left to give Mayweather the ass kicking i've been longing to see him get.

Floyd v pac hardly excites me at all. Fight should've happened 2010/2011. Pac has since lost twice and 1 in which Marquez brutalised him.

A rematch should have happened in 2010/11; the first fight should have happened in 2008/9.

It's bonkers that it has taken so long to get these two into a boxing ring.

Surprised nobody's mentioned this. Exactly the reason why if I was awake early enough which I probably won't be is why I would do streams instead

Bit misleading, it's £19.99 unless you order it last-minute.

So it's the same price as Groves vs Froch, Bellew vs Cleverly or even Haye vs Audley Harrison.

Only £5 more than Hatton vs Mayweather which was 8 years ago. For the biggest fight in our generation and probably a much better undercard than any of the above. Well worth the money.

Easy win for brook, how the hell was that guy the mandatory for the title? It was embarrassingly one sided.

Yep Brook was a class above.

Could've easily finished him sooner but think the adrenalin at being back in the ring was pumping too much at times. Handy for me though as I had a round 4/5 KO

Be interesting to see who he fights next.

Agreed.

The welterweight division is smoking hot right now & yet someone like Dan can get to the position of number one contender for a 'world' title!

The sooner these ridiculous alphabet organisations are flushed down the toilet, the better for the sport of boxing.

It's just robbing fans of money when such opposition is put in the ring. It's never a world title standard level fight, something needs to change. I want to watch fights which I know will be or could be competitive.

Is brook good enough to beat the likes of khan, mayweather and pacquiao? Yes he might have looked good last night but that was a joke of a fight. How the hell that guy was no1 contender I'll never know. Something has clearly gone wrong there.

It's hard to say at this stage, last nights fight didn't tell us much due to the standard of the opposition although from what I have seen of brook and khan I can see brook beating khan by KO to be honest due to brook's power and khan's suspect chin, not sure how keen khan would be to have that fight.
Mayweather and pacquiao however are a class above khan and far better than anyone he has fought to date so we don't really know yet if can mix it with the very best in the division.

You should be asking if Khan is good enough to beat the likes of Brook.

Brook is an established Welterweight & a big one at that. He also holds a world title belt; something Khan does not.

Khan has only had a couple of fights at 147 & is a pumped up lightweight who has been violently knocked out at lower weights by smaller men.

Lordy that was some mismatch. I'm going to see if I can get myself back down to welterweight - I'll be manadatory challenger in no time!

Well done to Brook though. That's one defence under his belt at least. Dan looked terrified from the off and was so easy to hit I can't believe he has never been stopped before - but you can only beat what's in front of you and all that.

We will know where we are after May 2nd. Khan is clearly holding out for the winner of that - or even the loser. I think Brook V Khan could be bigger must-see fight than Froch V Groves part 2 though.

It's pretty standard for British boxing - win a world championship and then take an easy first defence. This was always going to be a bit of a non-event no matter what the other guys supposed ranking.

Bigger fights to come in the next 12 months - possibly Khan and the winner fighting Pacman/Mayweather ... although personally I think their first fight will be the first of a series before they both hang up their gloves.
