In which case, the producers are as daft as I thought they were.

Do you really, honestly think that rational people embrace everything that a celebrity thinks simply because they quite like them on some programme or other?

Maybe - and only maybe - this would be slightly true if Ann had made a career out of being a 'role model' like Cheryl Kerl, but she hasn't.

Frankly, posting this is using Ann's political views to further your own agenda - which is the very thing that all the Ann-detractors have been complaining she is using SCD to do. And as there is no mention of SCD in that article, nor has Ann made a single reference to her political stance on ANYTHING during the series, I think that the idea she is using SCD to promote a political agenda in any way is plain wrong.

It is well documented that I think discussions of Ann's politics have no place on this forum (and less well-documented that I'm pro-choice), but if such discussions are going to persist then I'll keep arguing the toss

How many people are voting rationally for Ann?

I'm not saying that people will embrace her ideals, I'm saying that they will be given more credence as people's opinions of her change.

Her support for the organisation and its beliefs will be given a higher profile due to her time on SCD, more people are likely to attend the events, and more people would chuck coins into a collection box on being told 'It's Widdy's charity!' or something similar.

That's what concerns me the most.

Do you really, honestly think that celebrity endorsements have no effect?

She's made a career out of espousing views which I hope most people in the UK in the 21st Century would find, at best, somewhat quaintly old-fashioned, and at worst, homophobic and sexist.

Ann is clearly using SCD to bolster her own profile - that's why everyone does it, after all.

It seems disingenuous - facile, even - to believe that she will suddenly stop espousing her reactionary causes at the end of this process. In fact, we know she won't, because she's still doing it.

So of course she'll use her higher profile for political ends - she doesn't have to hold up a "No to abortion" sign on ITT to do it, she simply has to use the leverage from her profile to promote her lovely pet causes.

And that's why politicians shouldn't be on Strictly.

Her "no-sex" thing is a political stance. Obviously. She's trying to mould public opinion to come round to her way of thinking.

Her pathetically ill-informed "opinion" about what the salsa is about was a classic example of this approach.

Yeah, right. Of course we'll swallow that one. Like hell

Anyone in dance - teacher or performer - could tell what Ann's dance potential could be (or could never, ever hope to be) by simply watching her walk across a floor. 100 yards would do it, and it would tell you everything you'd need to know.

Craig sounds very reasonable when he speaks like this if only he could cut out his nasty remarks.

I know this forum is incredibly touchy feely even in the most inane of circumstances and all about equal opportunities non discrimination (what a load of crap) but come on, get a grip already; Widdecombe is incredibly overweight, old and unfit and there was no chance in hell she would be anything other than the nightly joke performance. Shut up already about body sizes not mattering, guess what, this is the real world, they do.

P.S. before anyone throws a strop, I ****ing love Ann and will vote her in every round because this show sucks and this message board culture sucks.

If that's what the producers thought, the producers are idiots and should be sacked.

Yes TV is all about image and manipulation and Wids is fat, frumpy and unfit. Level playing field my butt. If I was minded to vote then it would be one for her and another for Aliona. The idea that SCD is being used for political advantage belongs on one of those whacky conspiracy boards. Perhaps Cameron has instructed GCHQ to block vote for Widdy. She already has all the friends and contacts she needs in high places. She might be trying to craft out a career for her dotage but that's all of them. dome said it a few days back it really isn't that important.
