On SCD it is classed as a ballroom that is why Ricky did the cha cha in the final last year and not his Argentine tango.

I thought that was just because it would be nonsense for him to do the same dance 2 weeks in a row?

Just for reference I listend again to what Karen said about lifts and can confirm that she said that lifts are not allowed in Waltz Foxtrot Tango Quickstep and VW (Ballroom) or Cha Cha Samba Jive Paso and Rumba (latin) but are allowed in Salsa American Smooth Charleston AT and showdances.

It's a bit of both.

The five "proper" ballroom dances are waltz, foxtrot, tango, Viennese waltz and quickstep. American smooth is the 6th ballroom dance on Strictly, which allows lifts.

The five "proper" latin dances are rumba, cha cha cha, paso doble, samba and jive. Salsa is the 6th latin dance on Strictly.

Then there's charleston, which isn't latin or ballroom, and Argentine tango, which is a bit of both. To balance things, I think the show's producers see charleston as latin and Argentine tango as ballroom.

Neither.

But for the purposes of what passes for rules on the show, I guess it'd be classed as ballroom - it's in hold and progressive.

That as well but if Chris had done the Charleston in the semi-final he would still have danced it in the final because it was his best dance but Ricky couldn't have done the quickstep and Argentine tango.

My understanding is that the semi-final dances can't be repeated the following week regardless if they're people's best dances or not, it makes no sense to allow it.

That has certainly been the case in the past- Darren wanted to do his Waltz in the series three final but was not allowed.

I have realised we havent had any group dances this year apart from in the reveal show.......I think its a shame I used to enjoy the potential for complete mayhem they produced.

I was thinking the same. Hope they do some soon. I imagine they might do one in Blackpool which has a Vegas theme apparently. I'm hoping we will see American Smooths and Sambas in Blackpool- and not everyone doing different dances.
