Why are One Direction being rammed down our throats?

Every week Simon makes a comment about how One Direction will win and that they are the next big thing to hit the charts. Understandably they're his act so you expect some bias.

However all the other judges agree with him. Not one negative comment is ever said about these boys.

Why?

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks they don't have much chemistry, sing poorly to an overly loud backing track and appear to have additional vocals 'bumping up' their sound.

Can anyone enlighten me on why they're tipped to do so well? I think they're crap.

I want to ask the same question. They're nothing special at all. All he cares about is the fact that he can make lots of money out of them.

It is cringe-worthy the way they're being forced by simon. Cher & Katie also.

Cowell tried to foist Danyl Johnson on the public last year.

I think the phrase World Class cropped up after his performances.

He is looking to justify a record deal with a quick buck made with them.

I am not convinced they will get to the final although the third spot is up for grabs between them Aiden & Cher I suspect.

On This Morning today it was remarked how One Direction were on last (and they said they were one from the end last week) and how it's the song/artist that is fresh in viewers' minds when it comes to voting!

I actually think Simon wants One Direction to win, especially seeing how well JLS have done...
and the bands don't seem to win like the solo artists do!!

Approx 1.23 Zain (or whatever) almost misses his `turn` yet his vocals are loud with his mouth closed and mircophone away...?????

Approx 1.37 Liam `reminds` the Irish one to start walking.

They are a Class Act, even Wagner is more entertaining.

Is that after Katie and Wagner?

I bet they will get a really popular song next week... like "I'm Still Standing" as it sounds good done by a group and is well known!

Just shows how out of touch Cowell is with public opinion now yet thinks he has the finger on the pulse.
1 Direction are just average, not else, just average. They are no take that are they, and cant even sing or dance that well - plus, where's the charisma?
They are basically the only thing Cowell has this year so he'll push them to the hilt.

I disagree with this. They've not yet been in the bottom 2 so clearly they have a fan base.

Most people on here are not in the target demographic for One Direction so don't understand the appeal.

You might not think they're good but they appeal to their target audience in the same way that boybands of the past have appealed.

Yes they're not the best singers in the competition, but in my opinion they do the job of 'being a boyband' well. When I was 14 I loved Five - obviously they wern't the most talented group but at the time I loved them. If I was 14 now i'm sure I'd love One Direction too.

They do have a specific demographic which is why they are avoiding the Bottom 2. Eggnog also avoided the Bottom 2 but crashed & burned come the Final.

That is the best 1D can hope for. They are no better than he was IMO.

Fair play to them but Cowell is stretching his own credibility by putting them in the same bracket as Rebecca & Matt . How he managed to keep a straight face I don't know but that itself was probably the performance of the weekend

I don't mind Zain being rammed down my throat on a Saturday night.

Sunday night, I'm not so sure, as I've got work in the morning... but I can live with that.

Mind you Louis is equally as OTT about them.

Simon has probably promised him the job of managing them

I would like any one who has voted for them to come forward and explain..WHY?? I can't imagine they are surviving every week on the teeny vote alone.

So anyone over the age of 18, please tell us. if anything I'd like to be converted, because I'm getting really fed up with swearing at the TV every Sat night (I know, V sad) and gettiing increasingly annoyed by the use of multi layered vocals and a loud backing track which sounds like 50 voices and not 5!! also the use of ..shall we say 'techinal enhancement' to very few solo parts, and for none of the judges to critisice them when in the past they would have slaughtered this kind of thing.

Forget the demographic they are appealing to, and also without mentioning their looks, or attractivennes, which if you are older will be very creepy anyway. So there's the challenge....

I wonder how they'd do if they opened the show? Would that even be possible with Simon only having one act?

A boyband potentially has the ability to shift a lot of records. There doesn't appear to have been a boyband in the Take That, Westlife, Blue or Five mode for quite a while so I s'pose Simon thinks the time's right.
Personally, I think the whole boyband/girlband thing is a busted flush now and nobody actually wants one. A lot of kids I know nowadays (presumably the target audience for these sort of bands) don't actually like music much and the ones that do get it all illegally off Limewire or somewhere.
I've also always felt Simon does not know his arse from his elbow about music... his constanr "Girl Power" comments about Belamy were cringingly dated - trying to dredge up a bogus "phenomenon" from years ago indicated his lack of ideas.

Well, it should be since they were allowed to perform last.

But it won't happen, none of the judges are even allowed to slate them in any way. Simon won't risk anything.

Where do Wanted & JLS fit in the boy band niche then?

Wow! Clearly no room at the inn then? I dunno who Wanted are but I think JLS have slid over to the MOBO-y RnB thing (thang?). I still think the traditional slot for a band to sell product to 8-yr old girls has been vacant for a while. But I still firmly think nobody actually wants one.
