I recently had a problem on my HTC Desire which prevented it coming out of standby. Long story short I sent it back to Vodafone who fixed it and sent it back. Vodafone repair policy is to clear all data and send back a 'vanilla' phone. So I received a phone back with no contacts, phone numbers, appointments apps etc. Plus all my log in information to various accounts had also been erased. Setting up the phone again to my satisfaction has been a nightmare. contacts ,appointments etc all no problem as I synchronise all of these with Oulook on my laptop. Most of my loon information I have been able to re-enter and get working again. The 7 screens of apps and widgets has been another story. Despite my best efforts I have been unable to remember exactly what i had previously and were it went. I only notice when I go to look for something and cannot find it. Also some of the apps I paid for and it looks as though I will have to pay for them again as there does not appear to be a method of downloading again without further payment.

Does anybody have any ideas how you can save and preserve your 'setups' in order to make life a little easier if I have to go through this process again?

If you have a rooted phone, you can use titanium backup.

Also google 'nandroid backup' This takes an 'image' of your phone, and you can then restore it back at any time.
