I have a Nokia N8 with Virgin Mobile, which i believe use the T-Mobile network, and have had no issues to date (touch wood) although i miss placed the phone and nearly lost it !!

Other than that i really like it

Accessing social networks and OVI are very very quick

Thank you

In a thread where someone is obviously excited about a new phone they have ordered saying 'If you're fine with random freezing, a dated Internet experience, laggy menus, small app store, an ugly GI and the worst typing/keyboard experience of any up-to-date smartphone, then buy one.' is certainly crass and churlish. The distinction of whether or not you are trolling really only differentiates if you were being deliberately so or not.

I'm not sure that being deliberately rude is any better or worse than accidentally.

Vodafone have certainly done a number on it but you shouldn't be having the problems you are.

There are no references to vodafone 360 on my phone and i have no intention of ever using their services.

I suspect one of the problems you are having is simply that the browser's home page has been set to 360.

Why don't you take it into a store and ask them to show you how to use it.

...because the spec included everything I wanted. Why get things you don't need?

I wanted video (specifically use of BBC iPlayer) a decent camera, GPS, MP3 and a wifi web browser.

Have never been able to get iPlayer to work, the camera refuses to work just when you need it, ditto the GPS outside with a clear sky. The browser is awkward to use. The autorotate locks up regularly.

I had an N70 previously which was really good for what it did so the N96 was a significant upgrade. Unfortunately it's been a very expensive mistake so that's the end of Nokia for me, more of a loss to Nokia than to me as there's plenty of good alternatives to choose from. I'm otherwise a fan of the lesser Nokias though as they're a pleasure to use.

I really like the phone, but I'm just at the point where I want to throw it against the wall!

Why can't I get into the OVI store. Every time I click Ovi, or download ovi store or ovi homepage it says, cannot connect at this time?

The Nokia software I installed on my computer just crashes it.

I was with O2 for years, but when it came to upgrading they said I could only go on a tariff for new customers which are really expensive. I asked how come they were more expensive than every other network and I took my contract out with them on the understanding I was building up loyalty points. They said, we don't do that anymore, go to Vodafone if the deals are better. ! Honestly. So I did. I was with O2 for about 4 years, always paid my bill on time by direct debit, and mostly went £20 or £30 over. So to be told just go to vodafone honey, get the best deal for you.

Sounds like its not got the correct network settings; and you don't need to install the Ovi suite on your PC - file transfer can be done just as easily in regular USB mass storage mode.

Vodafone should be able to help with the settings - either sending through an update via SMS, or at least assisting you in manually keying in the relevant settings.

Yea I used windows media after taking that software off to transfer music and photo's. Worked much better!

I'm not sure how to change the network settings?

That's 3 articles showing the N8 takes better pictures. Good work.

The iPhone is using artificial colour enhancement. we can all turn up the saturation if that's what we want. indeed the N8 has this option.

My N8 is working a treat.

The photo's and video it takes are stunning quality. T-Mobile also included the HDMI cable so looking to connect that up to the tv at a later date.

It hasn't crashed on me yet, and like all nokias its pretty easy to use and navigate round.

I also like the weightiness, feels like it could take alot of abuse before it breaks, unlike the iPhone.

I'm now posting my Blackberry Curve off to T-mobile Recycling as they have offered me £60 for it

I would highly recommend debranding your phone from Vodafone's bloated, crappy custom software. There's excellent and easy instructions here - http://nokia.nigelcoldwell.co.uk/firmware.htm It's not hard. You're just running some software on your computer (that connects to your phone) and changing a serial number. Takes 5 minutes, if that.

I have an N97 Mini that came with Vodafone software. It was loaded with app's I'd never use, some apps wouldn't find internet connections even though one was present and it was pretty unstable. I followed the instructions, and installed Nokia's own software and it now performs much better (not perfect, but much much better). Also note that when a new software update is released to the public BY Nokia, you won't be able to get it. You have to wait until Vodafone approves it, customises it and then releases it themselves (which can take over 3 months - at one point for the N97 Mini, a further software update had come out before Vodafone had even released the previous one). With an unbranded Nokia, you'll be able to get them as soon as they're released.

Nokia's standard software will remove any references to the Vodafone 360 service or whatever, and allows you to get extra software (for example on my N97 Mini, a Paint-like app, Ovi contacts, Here and now, Mail For Exchange) that weren't offered to me under Vodafone.

Some have said it voids your warranty, but if something does go horribly wrong, you can REBRAND your phone to Vodafone, install their crappy software again and they'll be none the wiser.
